Toby's nose is falling

Hello, Toby is a 3 years old sheltie. Since he was a pup, his nose started to peel close to the hair line. We have beein using a cream, but it looks worse each day. The vet says it is an allergy, but we don't know what to do! Appreciate your advice! :wink2:

I don't know if this will help you, but two of my Shelties had problems with rashes around their noses or chins until I started feeding them strictly from stainless steel bowls, including their water bowls. When I used plastic or ceramic, they reacted to it. It's such a simple thing that you would never think of it! But as soon as I made the switch, they both improved. If you don't use stainless steel, it's worth a try.

Good luck and please keep us posted!

One of our Shelties had this problem and our vet prescribed Kerasolv Gel and it really helped. I don't know if it's the same thing or not but it really helped our Sheltie's nose.

I have always fed my dogs out of stainless steel bowls and the water also.
Thanks for that info, it makes sense to me, since plastic is pourous, possibly it holds bacteria or something that affects dogs.

Awhile back a test was done on cutting boards, wood can you believe carries less bacteria then plastic ones, so I think you have it right. They sell plastic and ceramic bowls for food and water, so who would think of this being a problem?

One of my dogs was getting this type of problem and we finally discovered that it was a reaction to mold. The question then was where was he picking up the mold. We discovered the answer was the mulch in the plant beds and landscaping around the house where he frequently nosed around. We removed all the old mulch and replaced it with cypress mulch which does not support mold. That solved the problem. This may not be your problem, but since the nose is involved it may be. Just a thought. Hope you get this solved. Regards, Will
