Great advice Liz. Honestly, since I'm not going to be buying so much food, prices aren't a huge worry. And since I can't feed him a lot of heart/neck/etc, even better, lol. As in not worry about it. There is a great co-op in my area for bulk buying. When I have a home and a big freezer and am ready to go all out, I'll go that route.
But for Miko's kidney diet, it'll mostly be dark meat chicken (that I can get for $1/lb and ground beef (this may get more expensive. I may have to find something else for that). The rest is going to be grains and very little veggies.
Of which....I bought some farina (cream of wheat cereal) and tried to cook it. Um, bad cook (I don't cook), it turned all rubbery. LOL. But they made great patties. And Miko didn't seem to mind at all. In fact, he seemed to love it. I'm going to ask my friend to help me get some of the meat now (I'll be buying the dark meat chicken at a vietnamese grocery store and well, they don't speak english very well). I'll get the liver from a korean market and well, as for the ground beef, not sure yet. LOL.
For those that feed all this stuff. Do you tend to freeze everything once you make your meals? I'm assuming it would only last in the fridge for a couple of days otherwise.
Oh, gotta buy scissors and a bigger knife. Maybe a chopping block just for this stuff too.
