Toothless Shelties

Thank you Ann

Don't you just hate when that happens . Like they don't make enough money from us from all the other stuff the least they can do is give us a break somewhere.

Those teeth

When we got Gabe, he still needed to be neutered so I did a dental on him while he was sedated. He had quite a bit of tartar for a 1 1/2 year old dog! Now he gets one Jumbo sized Greenie (he's a very aggressive chewer and will swallow large chunks of the smaller sizes) every other day. I try to brush his teeth every day and I add Oxyfresh to his water. Another treat he gets are the CET chews that supposedly help fight tartar with enzymes. My husband is still in the dark as to why I'm so obsessed with our dog's dental hygiene!

Ironic that I have been posting on this 'teeth' thread, because today when cleaning teeth I noticed one of my (Sheltie-hound mix) Maggie's Canines is dying, turning red-black. She is 8 and has always had perfect teeth, so It was odd to find it darkening.

Then...as I was picking up one of my rescue cats, I noticed he broke off half of his canine tooth somehow...most likely playing with his brother.

Just when I think I have all the vet issues cleared up, here we go again!:wink2::razz::rolleyes2:

Oh no Bad teeth !

Don't you just hate just when you figure you are finally on top of the vet bills and Bingo, another visit!:eek2: Bananas!!:rolleyes2:

I know what you mean, Chris, We put a room (at least!) on our last vet's house. My Pixie has to go in next week for a weepy eye...I've been watching it for a week hoping I could clear it up but no dice. Just when that charge card finally stopped smoking....Cha Ching!!

I really can't complain. My vet is a great guy. He came out to the house when old Bear the Big Red Dog finally needed to depart for Rainbow Bridge. He's offered to do the same for old Lassie the Collie -- and reasonably, too. How many vets still make house calls? I feel as if I lucked into James Herriot.

I also try not to begrudge my vet his money (although I love to complain about it!) because I know they have a lot of scooling to go to, and a tough job.

But it does add up, doesn't it? Just meds (flea control, Heartworm preventative, supplements, etc) add up big time!

Good Vets Still Exist !!

You hit the jackpot, Chris. The only vets up this way that will come to you are large animal vets. For the farm animals. I don't think I could have a Sheltie qualify for cattle, sheep or horses. But we do have good vets just expensive but not as bad as when I lived in Northern Mass. But yes they are worth the money because after all they are our babies.
