Training 2o2o

What I saw was you telling him "Wait" on the down side of the contact.I tell mine in the middle. Then you clicked him on the DW and treated and then clicked again wich I am not sure what the click was for.

I kept trying to figure out what I might be clicking a second time for. Then it hit me....another person in class was training her dog on the side with a clicker. She was about equal distance from hubby aka cameraman than I was. I'm thinking you heard her clicking and not me. The only time I double clicked was when he actually did two obstacles and I cut most of the other stuff out.

Ah...at least we now know why there was two clicks. :)

I will try saying "wait" in the middle of the DW (not the down side) and see what happens. I figure, it can't hurt to try different things. I believe Koji should know the what the command means regardless of when I say it. And if he starts picking up speed I'm going to need to say it earlier.

Yes you are right on the clicker. But you did feed from your hand and not the floor and then you relesed him and fed on the floor.I think you are confusing him what you are asking him to do.You click for 4 feet on the board and then you click for 2020.You have to decide what you are asking him to do.Are you training with the same lady?

Looked like it was comming along, like Sharon said we all train different, & what might work for 1 dog doesn't necessarily work for another, once you find something that works for your partner the best you can do is to try and be as consistant as you can yourself everytime to help them out ( not MY strongest Point either but I am trying LOL). In the initial video it looked like he had the yellow is posion syndrome, musent touch yellow will die:wink2:

In all honesty I probably didn't realize I fed him by hand. Hard habit to break. That's why I probably put it on the ground the second time.

I guess you could simply say that I'm not consistent and I need to be.

I am training with the same lady, however, at this point, it doesn't matter. All training is going to be stopping soon (with a trainer in general, not me training). I'm going to have to work on this at home while I'm not formally training.

Like I said, it's not like she was giving me instruction or stopping me and saying exactly what you just did. Wanna train me?

LOL. Yeah, I have no idea what that was all about. He was doing great last week. Then this one. woohoo, let's fly over them.

I am starting to really hate these contacts. When he was afraid of them and going REAL slow, he was GREAT! And now, he thinks he's superdog.

I know the feeling! I know Bentley is happier...but a tiny part of me is thinking "at least when he was creeping he never missed!" But, that's not fair to him...sigh.

I say if you are not happy with his contacts then go back to foundations with him.

Sharon,
When you say "foundations" what do you mean by that? Because I may need to go back and start over and BE CONSISTENT! Seriously though, I do need to be. I've come to realize how inconsistent I am.

You answered your own question.Go back to the begininng.Like I said before I have the best contacts with Shadow be it 2020 or running and they are to die for.Ask anyone that knows my dog and you will get the same answer.:biggrin2:

I guess what I meant was....what is the beginning?

For me, this is how I learned. Maybe you and others can tell me what they did differently.

We started with a dog on a flat raised plank (about 2" off the ground). Put a target plate down with food. Then target w/o food but treat food (on the target). Remove target and treat on the ground. Remove target and have the release be the treat or treat after the release (I guess at this point, it'd be chaining)

Continue with running while starting the targeting all over again. Then continue with running past and targeting from the beginning again.

Once the dog gets that, start on the downward incline of the DW (don't use the entire DW yet). And start over the targeting. Then running past (but still not using entire DW) and start targeting over again. Lastly, do the entire dog walk, but start the targeting from the beginning again.

So with every step as you move from plank to full DW, you start the 4 step targeting over.

This is how I learned. And even at that, I was doing running in the beginning anyways, so I skipped a lot of that target practice, it's probably why I'm so inconsistent.
