Training for a senior going deaf

Lucky will be 13 in June. He is a real stinker. His attitude is, I am old and I will do as I please. I call him and I will go out by him very close to make sure he hears me. Since he has become a senior, he only hears what he wants to hear. Nope, not ready to come in so I will just act like I can't hear.

Now when I open a bag of something very quietly, Lucky is in the next room, he sure hears that. Ohhhhhhhhhh Fooooooooood. He also hears if something is going on outside and it isn't loud either. Picks what he wants to hear.

Hand signals may help.

Yep! That's F-kap! Sometimes I think he doesn't WANT to hear me, especially when we'er in the back yard and he smells my feral cat, Blue Bell, around (What?! I had a sweet tooth when I named him!:rolleyes2:). But other times I know his hearing is going. Like when the neighbor's dogs start going barking when we'er inside and he doesn't even twitch an ear, or when I have to ask him more than once if he want's a treat (he's food crazy and would never pass up a chance to get a treat).
