Training with Epic

I have finally got round to filming some of Epic's recent training. As always comments and suggestions for improvement are always welcome. :smile2:

Having a go with a couple of simple sequences from 'C' in the Alphabet drills:

It's great now the weather is finally improving an the days are longer so we can go out and practice in the evenings and not get frozen (although it was cold in the wind yesterday!) Just over the last couple of days I have felt Epic and I are becoming a team and he is getting much more responsive to my commands rather than running wild. I think it probably helps that I'm starting to understand better. I just wish I could remember the route I need to take !!!

Wow...great video. Thanks for posting...I enjoyed watching it. Epic looks like he is really concentrating on you and following your commands.. You two make a good team.

Well I think that is brilliant and I can't think of anything to suggest changing, you both are doing so well. I'm glad you are enjoying it, I love agility and can't believe some people actually call it boring!

Epic is looking really good and he seems to have really grown in confidence.

Wow! You guys look great!

Just a couple small things I noticed (because I'm guilty of the same!) In the C drill, as Epic takes the pinwheel jump at the center of the C, you tended to stand still and watch him, and then take off. He should know that your extended arm and motion in that direction mean to take that jump, and as soon as he commits you can move to do "your job" whether that's to just get ahead of him, cue the next obstacle, set up for a cross, etc. It seems like he is ready to work a bit more independently.

Also, sometimes when you went to do your front cross you bent down really low with your hands in his face. I don't think he needs quite so much babysitting from you. Stand up a bit straighter and just use your arms normally. (You didn't really do it in class, presumably because you weren't ahead of him).

And speaking of class--his sequencing is great! He was driving ahead the majority of the time and moving so nicely. Keep it up!

:biggrin2: Thank you all so much for the very encouraging comments. I have nothing to really measure how we are doing having never done it before so it is great to have such positive feedback.

Corbinam, what you said about the front cross was really interesting because when I watched the video back I thought it looked very clumsy. That was the first or second attempt at doing a front cross (we've only done side crosses (?) before.) I think I sort of imagined he needed direction down at his level because he wouldn't see what I was doing if I was standing straight. But I've since filmed him doing some of the E drills and watched in slow motion and I can see him glancing frequently at me and I believe dogs have much better peripheral vision than we do so I need to have more faith!

Seriously - how can anyone think agility is boring?!:eek2:
