Trifexis

I just started my shelties on Trifexis after running out of interceptor and of course not being able to get it. At our practice we were told it could be to 6 months to even a year before we are able to get it again.

Question is has anyone used this and did any dogs have a reaction to it. I'm always nervous to use a new product.

My shelties had a reaction to the revolution and I like with the Trifexis you can still use the frontline for ticks.

Even tho my vet said it was safe I'm still afraid to use heartguard.

Just wanted some in put.

We're using Sentinel on our Sheltie-smart vet's recommendation. I understand that it's actually the same drug as Interceptor, but with flea prevention added. We start it in August -- we have one month of Interceptor left.

unfortuantly Sentinal we can't get either. I think its the same company that makes interceptor.

What kind of reactions? I heard vomiting was the biggest one. So far my dogs seem fine.

Missy has been on Trifexis for 2 months now, and she hasn't had any reactions or problems. Vet recommended I gave it to her after a meal. I don't know if it makes a difference, but she's only taken the 10-20# dose so far since she's still a puppy and hasn't gone over 20#s.

I know other dogs on this forum have had reactions, but I just wanted to weigh in and let you know that there are some shelties out there that have been fine on Trifexis.

Thanks. I'm sure like with any drugs some dogs will have reactions as no dog is the same. I did give it with a meal and so far everyone is doing fine. My one sheltie gets the up to 20lb one hes only 18lbs the other two get up to the 20-40lbs.

All three of mine are on Trifextis and have been for over six months. I give them just after a meal as well. None of them have had any side effects at all. One is under 20# and the other two over.

We started using Trifexis this year too and I've been really happy with it. No adverse reactions and no problems with fleas since using it. Plus its really convenient that it treats heartworm too.

My vet too recommended giving it to them with food.

My vet is against the use of the majority of the topicals, theres only a select few that she recommends. Trifexis being one of them. She feels that the chemicals in many topicals are just too toxic.

I did do some research online about Trifexis. The fact of the matter is, there are horror stories and the potential for an adverse reaction with every drug. You just have to look at your dog/situation and weigh out your options.

What I found in my reading was that the 'reactions' that people documented were exactly what the drug warns about in its facts sheet and almost never resulted in deaths. Deaths only seemed to occur in dogs that were not well in the first place and the drug company did not experience any deaths in their testing, unlike with some other topicals.

I also noticed that people were still giving their dogs the drug after they'd experienced an adverse reaction, which is just not using common sense.
