Trimming Leg Feathers and Hocks

As for a razor, I found that a lady's personal razor works just great for my purposes! It's a Remington model BKT-1000. I think it cost me about $20 at London Drugs a couple of years ago. Comes with a blade guard that is really handy for trimming hock hair, and is removable for easy use on the bottoms of paw pads. Runs on two AA batteries.

I don't use the razor on the ears, for that I use thinning shears (also purchased at London Drugs for about $15). I only use the razor on the bottoms of the paws and the hocks.
 
Looks like I'm shopping again! I swear Bacca's kit bag is 3 times the size of my own makeup bag.

- Furminator - bought and works great
- Peticure - on its way
- Electric Trimmer and Thinning shears - next to buy
- Maybe a grooming table next? Maybe then I could actually groom Bacca in one go - instead of grabbing sleepy moments!

Who needs a groomer!? I do! I would still pay the money to have someone do it right for me, but noone in my area seems to know how to groom a Sheltie properly!

I've been practicing on the fosters and it's so easy to follow that I feel comfortable about clipping the ears, hocks and feathers on my own dogs and they look like a million bucks!!

I looked up the book you mentioned and its only available in Canada if I order it online at Amazon.ca. I know that books are much more expensive in Canada than in the US (I don't know why!) but I was shocked by the price difference. I looked it up on Amazon.com then Amazon.ca and it was twice as expensive on Amazon.ca at $80! What a rip off, the exchange rate isn't nearly that much!

I'll have to ask my husband to get it for me for x-mas from the american site :smile2:

I'm right there with you. I need to get the thinning shears and trimmer too! I was seriously considering getting a grooming table last year but I have tabled that thought for now...... soon though! Sitting on the floor kills my back everytime!!!

I just bought some thinning shears.

I couldn't find any decently priced thinning shears in my area that actually work so I ordered a pair on ebay from an equine grooming store. The shipping was actually more expensive than the shears, in total they cost me under $15, which included all taxes and shipping expenses. That's an awesome price for me, in the US I think shipping was free (which would have made the shears around, $5), for me that included shipping, duty and brockerage fees to ship over the boarder.

Hopefully they work well!

Went online to find the Remington BKT-1000. I find out it's got great reviews as a Bikini trimmer....wonderful! Bacca and I can share! :lol:
 
That is exactly what it is! A "female personal hygiene trimmer". Much cheaper than a professional dog grooming trimmer. Small and handy, and is designed for "those sensitive areas" so I trust it to be gentle on the puppers' feet! :lol: And who can resist the opalescent purple sheen?

I just found it on Chapters Used and Rare site for $37 Cdn. I haven't ordered it yet because I just received Sheltie Talk from Amazon and hoping it will cover it just as well.

Hi GeeRome, I just wanted to thank you for posting your techniques for trimming sheltie feet. Thanks to you (and a bit of guidance from my neighbor who is a hair dresser), I've finally successfully trimmed Sadie's feet! I still need some practice to perfect the techniques but they look MUCH better than they did!
