Tully update - dementia

Echo everything already said, cuz it happened here too with Koko. In the end I was sleeping on the couch so I could hear him moving or needing me. When he didnt eat anything offered for 4 days, I let him go. Still tears me up. I hoped he knew who I was up till the end. He was almost 14.

I tried sleeping on the couch but the cats jump on me. So I've covered the bedroom floor with towels and will just carry her to bed - lucky she's small. Tully is eating a lot and still knows me, but yes if that changes I think that will be time. I do need to remind her to drink though, and that's an issue with her kidney disease.

Saw the vet today, he hadn't heard of selegeline but he wrote a script. Was going to try her on phenergan but she actually took herself off to bed. She mostly slept thru last night which would have been great but now the cats think 3.30am is time to get up and we're harassing me all morning. Grrr

BTW, vet thought maybe she seems to have gotten worse because she's so blind now.

Sorry to hear this, I know its heartbreaking.

Have you considered Vit B1 supplementation?
I hate to post social media, however some brief official cite searching seems to indicate it may be worth investigating.

I have no clue if the below are factual, however there does seem to be a lot of new research being done in many places finding at least some worth to the effort.

From what I can find, as B1 is water soluble, there is a very low chance of overdosing as it will simply be excreted.
I found the following showing treatment at 0.5 - 1mg/lb every 24 hours depending upon what is being treated.
Minimum requirements were found here: https://internationalpetfood.com/thiamine-in-dogs/

"Typically, dogs require around 0.55 mg of thiamine per 1,000 kcal of metabolisable energy."

You might want to call your vet and inquire about it. Its a shot in the dark, but you never know.

Sadly Tully passed away some time ago; this is an old post. But thanks for jumping in with your always interesting information and links.
