Unsure how to correct a behavior

I was going to respond with some other ideas, but then reread the thread and realized that you were dealing with an unneutered dog.

So, a lot of what I MIGHT say would still be relevant, but first I have to ask if he is still intact because you plan to breed him? If you don't plan to breed him, then why not neuter?

Barb, he's not neutered yet because he's an agility dog. I wanted him, and his breeder is 100% on board, to finish growing before being neutered. There are a number of studies that show early neutering can lead to issues with irregular growth.

So, we had to stop at the vet's office to pick up Edan's thyroid medication so we scheduled Keiran's neutering for the end of February while we were there. Why the end of February? Because February is a very busy month for us - two agility trials, a trip to Indiana, and our local Sheltie specialty show. We figured it would be better on Keiran if we weren't running around so much after the surgery.
