Bonnie: Still dealing with epilepsy. We're taking her off phenobarbitol because it's affecting her quality of life (constantly groggy). Potassium bromide may be helping, but we're still seeing a seizure every 2-3 weeks. We're starting Purina Neurocare food because her neurologist says it's been clinically shown to reduce seizures in 50% of cases. She's been enjoying traveling despite all that -- she accompanied me and my nephew to Paris in March.

Asher: My beloved homebody loves being with his humans and canine siblings. He's such a cuddlebug!!

Penny: We said farewell to Penny just days shy of her 17th birthday. DH was heartbroken, as were DS and I. Yet we all knew it was time, and she took her final breaths in Daddy's arms. We kn ow St. Francis welcomed her with open arms and that she was greeted enthusiastically by Layla, Beckon (aka Colonel Underpants), and Annie Laurie.
 
Chris, I have a whole saga on epilepsy. First our Meadow was diagnosed at age 3 August 2023. It took almost a year of different drugs and combinations to find what worked for her. She has been seizure free on a combo of phenobarbital and zonisimide. You might see if adding the zonisimide to the bromide might help. It is not expensive.

Then in November 2023 Faith started having seizures. An MRI showed two meningioma brain tumors. She was well controlled for almost a year with Keppra and zonisimide. We lost her last October.

Having two dogs with seizures was an incredible strain. I'm so sorry Bonnie is affected.

We now have added a blue merle female pup to our pack, Juno. She is now 6 months old. You can see photos of her on her threads under Puppies and Sheltie Chat if you're interested.

Glad that Asher is doing well. Hope you are too. We miss you here on the Forums.

Thanks! We're weaning Bonnie off phenobarbital bcause it stoned her out. Since cutting back, we've seen her old energy level start to return. She's now on Kepra and potassium brimode. I'm going to ask about zonisimide!
 
Hi Chris, good to hear from you again. Every time I've gone to type a message we've had another distraction. I've been back and forth to Melbourne this year for a very sick mum who is in and out of hospital - she amazes me by being able to pull through some pretty dire illness although the emergency trips are draining me. And at the moment I have a very sick Kismet - have no idea why she is sick and she's not getting better. At 5yrs old this shouldn't be happening.


I still haven't got used to Layla, Annie and Beckon not being here, heck I still haven't got used to not having Deska and Tully.

What a boatload of things you have to deal with. What are the symptom for Kismet, do you think she ate something in the yard or house that she shouldn't have.. We had one of our crew with a twist in her intestine and that made her throw up and not well. the vet gave her a mild laxative hoping that would untwist things and it did help. Sorry for all your issues.

Vet specialist thinks Kismet has a Protein Losing Entrophy (PLE) called lymphangiectasia. She's getting an ultrasound this Thursday to confirm. I'm so exhausted and financially struggling - was going to sell my home but I can't even do that as I got the builders from hell to fix it up for sale and now it's even worse, can't even rent it out. And all I seem to do is deal with the insane behaviour of my siblings and step siblings as they circle my mother like vultures. I've had to give up going interstate for mum's latest hospital stay - can't afford it and my health is not good. I feel cursed.
