URGENT!!! Euthanize date soon. Please help!

wow that is a very rude response. It's not like they're being spammed with petfinder posts. So what if people post the same dog two or three times? Just respond and say "we've already removed him from the shelter. thanks for looking out." It really doesn't take that much effort.

Wow, you are not kidding when you say that the person responding to messages is very rude from the Central Ohio Sheltie Rescue.

If they do not want to respond to something on a holiday, then don't.

Treating well-meaning people like they are idiots with a response like that is just downright rude!

Shelties do slip through rescue. Just these past couple of days I sent information to three sheltie rescues about shelties in dog pounds. I won't say who. They emailed me back very and I mean very glad I let them know about them and they will be getting them. These shelties could have been euthanized. They do slip through. I won't contact central Ohio rescue. But Northeast Ohio sheltie rescue is getting the sheltie and they told me they were glad people are looking out for them. Because it was a holiday made me more concerned for the shelties in the dog pounds. Like I said most sheltie rescues are very glad people care and they do slip through.

P.S. I emailed the rescues and didn't post on facebook. Maybe that is why they didn't bite my head off.:eek2

That may be the difference.

The National rescue list has more than 200 members from all over the country. They are well organized.

Yes, it happens frequently that shelters get tired of dealing with multiple phone calls from well meaning people who aren't interested in adopting the dog themselves. It happens frequently that shelters will refuse to work with rescues because of some past issue, which may include being barraged with calls. They are trying to pass laws now to require shelters to work with rescues, so we know it happens.

The best thing to do is to simply email the appropriate rescue with the link, or if you don't know who that is, email Dorothy Christensen, so she can get it to the right person, or she can ask the list. Check the ASSA website for her email. Or if you want, you can PM me the info, and I can see if it has popped up on the list yet, or I can ask them.

well glad someone was working on it getting him out...but here is where I can also see the other side of the coin...FB sucks...plain and simple. I see posts on there that are sooo far out of date, inaccurate...etc its annoying at best and I dont work for the rescues. Now imagine getting barraged with this inaccurate information, having to take time to figure out if its true, false, new, old..etc Do this day in and day out never mind doing your actual job of trying to save animals you know about, and ontop of this also getting emails about this...and than this repeats atleast several times a day. Annoying and frustrating to say the least...I know the rescues have a thankless job for the most part and are stretched thin.

I guess I sensed the urgency with getting Gizmo out asap is because if he is an owner turn in it could be euthanized right away. Sad but true. A stray has to be kept for a certain number of days. It boggles my mind to think of a dog warden getting angry due to too many calls or emails and taking it out on the dog by euthanizing it.

I guess my thoughts were this...I can see how FB might not be the best outlet to post Petfinder (or any other site) ads for shelter dogs. However, I felt that she was sort of rude about it. Like Randi said, how hard it would it have been for her to write me a message that said "This dog is taken care of. Thanks for the post. Next time would you mind sending me an email instead?"

I know that Sheltie Rescues have great networks...but aren't those networks made up of people that watch shelters, websites, etc...? I think it's a slippery slope to discourage "laypeople" (people not employed by rescues) from keeping an eye out and alerting rescues. If everyone thought that way, they would only have two or three sets of eyes (I know at least the rescue here is always talking about how shorthanded they are).

To sum it up for me too - I have NEVER been told by pounds, shelters, or rescues to not keep an eye out for shelties in need nor to not contact them. So the comments from the Ohio rescue are not the norm. Maybe they were having a bad day. I am going to still be on the lookout for shelties in need and other breeds because that is what I do. And tippy toe around Ohio. I know the rudeness and mean comments are discouraging to say the least but that sure isn't going to affect what I do.

Rudeness is not acceptable in any position in any company.

But think about this: it is a holiday weekend. There would be minimal staff on hand to look after the animals. No one knows what was going on at the shelter at the time that could have affected the way the person reacted. No one knows what was going on in that particular person's personal life that could have affected the way he/she reacted.

I know from personal experience I get extremely frustrated when patients leave more than one message when I can't call them back right away. Some have left up to five messages. This compounds the work I have to do. If the shelter is being swamped with emails, phone calls, visits, etc, and there is only minimal staff on, then the frustration level would certainly increase dramatically. If they are having to deal with emails, messages, etc., then they can't get on with dealing with the animals. I am not familiar with this particular shelter, but I think we need to cut the person a break.

Just be careful what you are saying about the person on the other end of this, as it could be you some day in your job with a similar situation.

Gizmo has been rescued. Got an email from the dog pound. When you post a dog on petfinder and say all in caps Help save this dog and euthanize date
NOW etc. Of course sheltie lovers are going to do some emailing or facebooking. The dog pound seems nicer than the rescue. I think the person at rescue blew this way out of proportion with the lengthy comments meant to make us feel bad for caring. Bottom line gizmo is rescued.
