USDAA Jump Height Study

Just wanted to say thanks again Ashley for sharing this. I shared it with my agility club and needless to say, there were many there who are hoping for a change in the 22" Championship jump height. Which means they probably have a dog my size, lol.

Whatever they choose to do, this study should be interesting. It seemed to me that dogs jump best at about their wither height.

What size are your dogs?

Vinca is 14 1/4"
Chloe is about 14.5"
So for them the jump height would be the same. They are over the 14, so they would jump 16 and that is also the same with AKC.

It is Dandie that I am hesitant with. She is just over 13" so for AKC she jumps 12" and but fur USDAA she would jump 16".

She could do it, as she is super athletic and very well put together. It just seems like a lot to have her do over and over again. Rough on the joints for such a peanut!

If it were up to me I'd say no dog should have to jump higher than it's actual height. i.e. whatever the jump heights are your dog would jump the closest under the height of the dog.
I would hope any adjustment would not mean eliminating 16" & introducing 18" just to reduce the difference to jumping 22" to 4", because then you would have more dogs from the existing 16" class being asked to jump higher.

In a more ideal world, I wouldn't use the withers as the measurement of the dog, but instead the distance from ground to sternum. That way the short leged breeds will be given a better height & the long legged dogs would have their advantage over others in their current height categories removed.

that would be the best- guess we don't know any way to get it changed to this method:confused2::wink2:
