USDAA Questions

A typical class running order might look like this: C22, C26, C16, C12 followed by P12, P8, P16 and P22.

The reason for this split is convenience. Like Ashley pointed out earlier, there are no spreads in performance (except the broad jump in steeplechase). Can you imagine having to run in and change all the doubles and triples for every height if they ran performance and championship together? It would be a nightmare for ring crew and add a large amount of time onto each class. [\quote]

Smack! I forgot about the changes needed. Whereas in NADAC and AKC, everything is the same. Don't mind me and my oldness. lol.

I know you were just joking about the discrimination bit, but I just want throw this out there for others reading.......

I could go on and on dropping famous performance dog names....but what I'm getting at here is that it's okay to be proud to be competing in USDAA performance classes. Bella will be moving down to performance 12" very soon and I'm excited about it. So welcome to performance, the other competitive agility world.

Thanks for all that. And yes, I was kidding. Trust me, I'd rather run Koji at 16" and have funky PIII titles versus running him at 22" and having a "Masters" title of any sort. Just not worth it for his physical health later on. I'm barely 36 and I feel OLD, and its probably because of all the abuse I put on my body when I was younger. So I can only imagine what he'll feel like in 6 years.

Okay, looks like I'm signing up for my first USDAA "test" for Feb 12/13 or just one day.

Couple more questions. On Sat, it shows Gamblers, but only for Masters/PIII. I'm assuming that means that's something I don't get to run in, correct? Same for Snookers on Sunday, Masters/PIII no other categories are shown.

Secondly, because they split the champ/perf groups, I'm assuming I can't run the pairs relay with a dog running 16" in Champions, is that correct? Ooo..I think my friend's dog can run Championship 16" cuz I believe he's 16". Poor Koji, he's too tall. lol.

That's it for now. She's going to do one day, I may do both just to get a feel for USDAA. :) We don't have a lot of those around here either.

You Guys have way , way too many options down south WOW. It's totally confusing to me too, basically here it AAC or CKC and both pretty much follow the same rules with only a couple of minor differances from what I am to understand. I have never run a CKC event here as it seems that 90 % or more of the trials within 500 miles of me are all AAC sanctioned events.
I would be confused too, whew.

Sounds like you're assuming everything correctly. But, it does seem odd that there is only Masters Gamblers and Snooker.

And for pairs, you have to run with someone in your division (performance or championship) at your same jump height.

Thanks. I figured it'd be that way and I'm sure she'd be running Championships. I'll have to find out.

BTW, here's the link to the premium: http://www.usdaa.com/entryforms/CA0132104713.pdf

I'm reading it right, right? That on Sat, it's just M/PIII for Gamblers and on Sunday, Snookers.

Thanks for helping me out! You're our resident USDAA Queen. lol.

I know, right? AKC, USDAA, CPE, NADAC, we even have UKI events. It's so confusing especially when you're starting out in a new venue. Oh gawd, I better get working on Koji's "down" again. Forgot it's an auto down for the table in USDAA. Let's not even talk about all the different rules. lol.

Here's what I'm seeing:

There are two rings, both running both days.

Since you are in Starters, this is what your days look like, and both will be in Ring 2 (Ring 1 is the Masters ring)

Saturday:
Starters Relay
Starters Standard
Starters Snooker
Steeplechase

Sunday:
Starters Gamblers
Starters Standard
Starters Jumpers

Looks like they are offering Masters everything all days, but less Starters and Advanced.

PS: You'll have to know how the judge is, I've never trialed under him. Lynn Sigman (Masters judge) is great. She's been to our trial once (we took her out to dinner) and we traveled to her trial in Virginia this past year. She is the owner of the club that April (Dogismymantra on the forums) is in.

Thanks for that Ashley. I figured I was reading it right, but wasn't sure. Never seen it where only the upper class had a ring to themselves. I wonder how much faster AKC would go if they did it that way. Hmmm......cuz y'know, ExA/B goes from 8-1 or 2ish. Nuts. I'm usually waiting around all the time. And that's one reason I'm not moving Koji up to ExB JWW. Cuz then I'd be there at 7am, run, then wait till 1ish, 2ish to run his STD run in Open. No thanks! I guess that's when we all go to the car and take a nap.

I wonder if we're doing anything for V-day, otherwise, I may just sign up for everything. ;)

ETA: Have I asked you how late your typical trial runs? I'm afraid this one will be long considering where they're holding it.

A bit OT, but wow, just reading about the how to get a permanent height card. Getting one of the CMJ's to sign off seems like it could take awhile to get a perm card. Especially since there aren't that many of them. I'm assuming with 2 judges over the weekend, I should be able to get 2 signatures? Hmm...if not, it's okay. It's just easier to get the perm card so I don't have to mess with getting measured all the time.

Wanted to briefly remind you (I'm sure you probably know) that there are a couple main differences in USDAA to remember. First, no collars of any kind in the ring, or it's an automatic E. Also, it's a down on the table, not a sit or stand.

You'd be surprised about finding a CMJ. I've seen 5 of them since I've been trialing. Of course, we see Stuart all the time, so that's easy for us. :smile2:
