Very Proud of Laddie today

I have a "Praise" report regarding Laddie.

Yesterday, I decided to use this empty hall near where I live, to start really training him to "heel, sit" etc. Well, I just used a regular choke chain, and when we got in the room, I said "sit" and he sat!! Wow, then, I said "heel" and he started to walk next to me looking at me the entire time, I hear that is a good sign. I stopped and said "sit" again, and he did. This went on for about 10 minutes, I did not want to bore him. Then, I gently took his leash off and said "heel" and he did pretty good. I am so excited, I bet when we start obedience classes he will do so well. He does seem to like to learn, and that little face, as it looks up to you, makes me melt.

This hall is a great place to be alone and have no interruptions, great for a beginner like myself.

Will keep you posted on his progress.

Wow!! It sounds like Laddie did great! Congrats. Your work is starting to pay off...that's wonderful. I always worked on obedience in short sessions...10 minutes per session...maybe a couple of times per day. Keep up the good work.

Nice work! I'm glad Laddie is behaving like the little gentleman I know he is! Good BOY Lad!(happy dance icon!) :biggrin2:

Congratulations! I think obedience work and classes will help you turn the corner with Laddie. He sounds like a Sheltie who does better with a job and you will bond with him doing it. Good job!

Thanks, I tried some of the training on our "outside" walk today, man, he was a different dog, he did not do a thing he did when inside the hall. I was disappointed. He pulled, turned circles, would not sit, man, he is Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, LOL, maybe I am trying too soon and should work more indoors. I know when I start the obedience classes, I will be out the entire time, should be interesting.

There are so many more distractions outside than indoors! Laddie is a puppy and his attention span is not very good. Be consistent and stick to indoor training for now until it's really ingrained in him and then just try one thing outside at a time. He'll get there, and so will you. Stick with it!
