I held for 12 months before I got my boys done. I had no particular reason for getting it done early....they weren't spraying around the house, so I just decided to hold off as long as possible. In reality, neither one showed any kind of overt sex drive, so I might have able to hold out longer.
Neuturing has had zero impact on their territorial behaviou.
If you dog is not spraying than I would wait as long as possible. I have no scientific evidence but I my tummy tells me that they will mature better with a late neuter.
But if you are having issues, then go for it.
