Video Reviewing Software - Coach's Eye

(Mods, please delete if inappropriate. I was trying NOT to make this sound like an advertisement but it's hard to talk about a good product's features without sounding like an ad sometimes.)

I've been thinking about where to post this information and decided to just post it in Agility since a LOT of agility folks video their training and actual competition runs.

One of my agility friends, who happens to also be a Sheltie owner (yes, our love of Sheltie's is what got us started talking in the first place), introduced me to a rather cool iPod/Android/Windows application for analyzing video over the weekend, Coach's Eye (http://www.coachseye.com/features).

OMG! I wish I knew about this tool sooner. I know I've spent a good bit of time looking at video to figure out "what went wrong" on a given run and struggled because either (1) it moved too fast and there was no way to slow it down; or (2) the person taking the video was too far away to get a good look at what happened. Being able to zoom in and look at EVERYTHING, (my movement, body position, feet position, etc.) step by step at a speed I controlled was 100x more useful than just re-watching my run.

I'm not sure about the iTunes or Windows version, but the basic Android version is free then you have to pay for the plug-ins to do many of the features or purchase the entire feature package for $20, which is actually the cheapest option given all the plug-ins (which is what I did).

Honestly, I DO NOT regret that purchase. It actually allowed me to adjust my handling a little bit for Sunday's runs and I had better results.

I've heard of this app before (I think it was mentioned in a Clean Run mag) but didn't look too closely at it. Do you use your phone to record your runs? And do you look at them just after your run to figure out how to improve, or do you wait till you get home, then make changes the next time you train?

I've been using the video function of my camera and can only look at my runs when I get home. Trying to find a better way. I largely train alone, so if I have to use my phone to record my runs I will need a tripod stand for it I guess!

I use my tablet to record my runs. (I have a Nexus 7 tablet.) Most of the time Glen and I are running in different classes and can record each other's runs and sometimes we have to see if someone else can record or do without. One thing I should look for is a universal mount to put my tablet on my tripod.

Since I'm recording on my tablet, I can review it while at the trial if time allows and I can adjust my handling in other runs that day or make a note for training.

Interesting. I have taken pictures at flyball of turns, crossings, etc and then processed them on the computer for analysis (and entertainment) at altered speed but if this does a good job in near realtime it would be useful.

My club uses Coach's Eye to call passes.

I'm glad some of you who do Flyball found this thread. It's useful for more than just Agility but I wasn't sure where the best place was for it since it crosses multiple dog sports.

Heck, you can even use it for Rally to try and see why the judge deducted points.
