Wapakoneta UKC Show

I'm not sure where in Canada, or when yet, but my friend who I went to the show with and I are talking about coming up with her male, plus Elektra, Caleb, and Wags, and then Ember and Thyme when they're older to get canadian championships on the dogs. So yes, we may be headed up that way in the future :D

congrats on the wins!!! I was going to go to the Wapa show but Belle decided that since she has a nice full coat it was time to into heat :rolleyes2: So she is now visiting Sherri for a couple of weeks :biggrin2: Hopefully in February we will have some Cosmo babies.

Congrats

Congrats on a great weekend!!!!I do not do breed and do not know a whole lot about it. What is the difference between UKC and AKC?IS it easier to win in UKC than AKC?

UKC doesn't allow professional handlers, doesn't allow product, and tends to judge more on structure and movement than just a pretty head. It is a more owner/handler friendly venue than AKC, where more often than not, you need to hire a professional handler to be competitive due to politics.
After being part of the Saddlebred show world for 15 years, I prefer to avoid showing in venues where politics play a major role.
The agility is my first love for a reason :)

I've always longed to try my hand at showing, but the politics has kept me at bay. If UKC remains open and free of political vermin, I may take a stab at it yet! Congrtatulations on your achievements!!

Congratulations

Thanks for the explanation!!!! Agility is my love also and cant wait to get my new baby out.

If you are interested in starting conformation showing UKC is the place. I started there and had a blast. Justice is a UKC Grand champion and it gave me the confidence to try showing. As a result I showed him to his Canadian championship. The people were very friendly and as Stacey said the dogs are shown in the natural state. No chalking, sprays etc. Just trimming of the ear and feet, a bottle of water and a couple brushes. :smile2:

Justice is a great mover and typey but he has an old fashion head. He would be very hard to finish in AKC even with a handler. Diva is the same line but her breeder has been working to refine the head piece but keep the structure and drive and we are getting there:smile2:

The UKC bases their breeding philosophy on breeding the total dog-structure ,function and temperment. They even have a special reward for dogs that qualify in a performation event and get a conformation win in the same trial called A Total Dog Award. So while they want a pretty face they also want a dog that can do what they are bred for.

I'm handling Diva in UKC next weekend. Should be fun.
