We survived the land of Up Sell!

I remember when Riley was sick and we were trying to figure out what the problem was. We were waiting in the room and our vet came in and sat down on the floor and did her exam completely on the floor. Riley was so much more relaxed, it was so touching to see! One of the many reasons I love my vet!

My vet and another lady vet in the same practice also will get on the floor with them sometimes. But mine are mollified more by all the cookies showered on them during the visit! :ROFLMAO:
Faith used to actually pull me into the exam room because she knew cookies were coming! And the good soft kind.

Yup the power of treats, give me a pound of live and I can lead your dog anywhere .... is the old saw..

We recently had our pups groomed and they did a good job and made their rear ends look good butt (pun intended) there had to be some more extreme measures taken(for practical reasons). So today was poopy chute trimming day- neither dogs like it but they know there are treats at the end and so they line up to have it done. And now we are all happier... When the trimmers come out they get excited and go to the trim place, sit and wait...treats are the gold in dog world.

I mentioned this one another thread but don't know if you saw it. I watched a Youtube video where a groomer presented a nifty method for trimming the "poop chute." You take the left arm (assuming you're right-handed), bring it beneath the dog's undercarriage, then around the top and use the hand on that arm to both hold the dog and hold the tail out of the way. Then you have the right hand free to wield the trimmers. I've done this a couple of times, and it works very nicely! Now if I could only find a easy way to hold those paws still while I clip the nails!

I am getting the feeling of a pretzel:).. For me i sit on the floor and have the dog face the other direction, lift the tail and clip away. Each dog waits his/her turn and treats follow. Your method sounds doable alright... It isn't a bad job but I know it isn't something someone would do if they were showing the dog-- but it does make our lives easier. We had a bad bad diarrhea event a day after I shaved our dogs-- it helped but this was the worst ever. far and wide all over the living room rug --poor dog. I was grateful for the hoover spot cleaner vacuum that day and the poopy chute was relatively clean.. All is back to normal now..yea!

I haven’t found a good way of doing nails…I use a dremel and the only way I found that works is sitting on the floor with the dog sortof on his back (propped against me) so I can access the paws. This would probably work too with the nail clipper.

That's how I do nails. I sit on the floor, brace the dog on its back between my legs with the head away from me and it's easy to trim paws and nails. I start teaching them to do this as puppies and it also makes it much easier when you need them to lay on their back or side for vet tests. They'll never need anesthesia for them!

I have mine lay on their sides on the grooming table for nails. my friend has done Davy's while he is standing on the grooming table- I've switched to that for Dixie as she no longer wants to lay on her side on the table. when Destin was little, I had to snuggle him in my lap to do his nails but he's great on the table now.
