Weave Poles

Has anyone use the new 24 inch weave poles? All the AKC trials are using them in all the trials here My dog club SNEAK bought a set.My dogs had no problem switching to them but it was interesting in watching the small dogs in class the other night. Atom who is a Pomeranian was taking double steps through them. He finally got comfortable with them and was doing it right.

What is the usual width you use? Our weaves over here are 60cm (about 24"). Its hard for a small dog to get up speed, but then wider weaves are much better for the health of the dog.

All but 1 club out of all of the KY, OH, and IN has had 24"s around here for at least the last year. Most of them have had them for the last 2. Mine do better in the 24" weaves

Our club just ordered the 24", I think our previous ones were in the lower limit (21" maybe?). Bentley didn't seem to notice much of a difference.

We've been training on 22" weaves. I don't expect Phebe to have any problem moving to 24" since I also train her using some metal poles at the park that are more than 24" apart. I haven't measured, but I estimate them to be about 28". She's pretty good at adjusting her stride for the different spacing.

My club just ordered a set of 24 inch poles. Currently we train on 22 inch poles. CPE is going to require the use of 24 inch poles starting in 2011.

With luck we'll have our 24 inch poles soon so I can run Edan through them a few times prior to the AKC trial we're doing on Memorial Day.

My agility partner has a King Charles. They were using 24" in NADAC this weekend and the poor thing literally smacked her face in the pole (third or second one). Obviously she wasn't used to it.

It seems the small dogs are having to take extra steps but they also seem to adjust pretty quickly. I haven't seen any issues with Koji. I don't think he's noticed.
