Weaves/ NRM

I do use the NRM--usually just for weave entries. I have started to use it a bit in my cik & cap training, but that's in a pretty early stage.

I used it initially when training contacts, but I've gotten to the point where I now give a more negative verbal correction because I know that Lexi knows better.

The one way in which I think my training differs from what SG showed in the video is that I am less likely to use the NRM over and over again. In the first part of the clip Swagger got a lot of "Oops". Clearly he wasn't phased by it, but because of Lexi's work ethic I know she would have started barking at me and become frustrated with that many "Oops" and no reward. If I have to use an NRM several times over, I change what I'm asking, or go back a step to make sure my criteria is clear.

Riley and Lexi must be long lost relatives.... Riley is never phased by a NRM, but he has a very low frustration thresholAd (even with training), so he will just spin around to bark in my face! That's our biggest issue in agility.

If I'm working on the weave poles and up the criteria slightly and he gets a NRM 2-3x without a reward, he barks at me :(. This occurs even if he's 100% in the previous criteria. We have Loud training!! BUT I am becoming a better trainer!!

You can add Bailey to the long lost relative list. She gets very frustrated if I correct her when she doesn't do something right. Even when we are running a course and I stop running because she didn't listen, she'll come charging back to me, run around me in a circle and bark in frustration. She becomes a lunging barking fool when she is frustrated.

However, I do use a NRM during training. It's usually an "opps, try again." If I have to do 3 NRM's, then clearly she is not getting it and we move on to something else.

I use a NRM and both Juliet and Romeo do that too. Juliet will bark and then eventually give up, Romeo will just sit or lie down. Lol! So now I will lower my criteria and make it a bit easier for them if I find I'm using the NRM more than a couple of times.
