Weird pattern

Just a quick update---no real improvement for Lexi and she is now ONLY eating her food. We have eliminated everything else from her diet and she's still having random bouts of bad diarrhea. I tried adding a tiny spoon of squash baby food (apparently has the same effect as canned pumpkin which we can't find here) and still no improvement.

We bought a new kind of food (same brand) but a different formula. She was on chicken and rice, and now we're going to try lamb and rice. Thinking it might be a food allergy of some kind.
 
When Sadie was having digestive issues she'd be fine for 3 weeks and then have massive diarrhea and vomiting. I felt so sorry for her, it was obvious she was feeling really ill.

This went on for months, we ran a number of tests and blood work but there was nothing overly strange to be found.

Eventually I gave in and put her on a hypoallergenic vet food and things almost immediately calmed down.

Some times if I gave her anything extra, like a coat conditioner with fatty acids in it, it would set her off again.

I thought it seemed fat related but now she is totally fine (2 years later) and doesn't react to anything.

My suggestion would be to either try a hypoallergenic vet food until her digestive system calms down or a REALLY bland holistic with very few ingredients.
 
The only other dog I know that had this kind of pattern has been tentatively diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

Her owner has got her on Blue Buffalo something, which is the only thing she can tolerate. I have told her about raw, even offered to keep the dog for a few weeks and do the transition, but she claims she has a "china doll" complex, and can't imagine her beautiful dog eating meat. :)

The acupuncturist the dog sees says that gut problems and shyness or oversensitivity are closely linked. That description fits this dog well.

Interesting. Lexi isn't shy or oversensitive, but IBS is something I'll ask about. I'm in the process of switching vets (unfortunately), and can't get an appointment with the vet (sheltie specialist) I want to see for another week or so. So I'm going to try this new food while I wait.
