Welcome to 2012! What are your goals?

I want to concentrate on training, want to take part in at least two agility summer camps.... I want Icy to be more realiable and confident while weaving, I want him to be in control even in his highest speed (that one is going to be tough - he's got troubles with missing weave entry when going too fast or leaving me behind, lol), also want him to get tighter turns....
I need to get better at handling, need to be more natural, I'd like to start some exercises, so I'd be in better condition etc.
Also, I'd like to compete more often, get rid of my nervousness, have fun and hopefully we can make it through to level 2 (in fact, i could skip over to level 2 right now - we have some great placements with excellent score - I don't want to go up unless I feel comfortable, though. We need to be running as a team first).

Is that enough for goals?!

There's a lot of agility stuff you can do while they're puppies, so look into "foundation" work. We usually call it "flatwork". Also, obedience is always good to work on. Trust me, us addicted people probably try now to work with them as soon as we get them, lol.

There's lots of threads about what you can do when the dog is a puppy to help them train for agility. Search is your friend. :)

Oh really? That's awesome. Thanks! I definitely will read up on the agility sections. The only thing I've done is watch dog agility championships on t.v. The dogs look like they're having so much fun.

1. Get Colonel Underpants his Rally Advanced title.
2. Continue Wounded Warrior work with Layla.
3. Keep Bitsy Boodle and Annie at their fighting weight -- both are now trimmed down and doing very well.
4. Get Mom back to her own fighting trim. :wink2:

yea, really.... actually the sooner you start the better. you just need to take it easy, make it fun... but foundation training is good start for any puppy. puppy learns the basics, read your body signals and so many other convinient tricks.... i like Susan Garrett's approach, too - there's a lot of games to make puppy interested in you and in working with you. Also games for focus, control AND drive. I didn't know that back then, but when I get a new dog, I'll put a lot more time into foundation training. :wink2:

I'll definitely put a lot of work into foundation training. I've been looking that up on youtube. My dog will succeed in obedience. I want to be a trainer in the future, so this is going to be a great starter dog. The only factor for me is where to get agility supplies. I've searched it up online, and they all seem over 100$. Is that as cheap as it's going to get for an agility kit? Or can I train up a puppy on a couple then progress later when I get more profit? Thanks, help!

Luckily to do foundation work you don't really need a lot of equipment. I only owned two jumps until about a year ago. You can make your own PVC jumps really easily--but even that you don't need right away.

There are some great threads on the forum on what you can do to get started.

Here's a great post by another member, Silaria that has some great ideas: http://sheltieforums.com/showpost.php?p=83055&postcount=14

Here's a video that I made with a few demonstrations, too.
