Good article, I wish more dog owners would learn about dog behavior!

Toby is some times a bit retarded in the way he greats other dogs, but not in a fear aggressive way, thankfully. :rolleyes2:

He gets very low and when on leash will try and drag me to the other dog in a sort of half crawl. When he gets there he'll go straight to butt sniffing instead of getting into the other dogs face. Dogs seem to accept his slightly over exuberant, yet submissive greeting well.

Off leash he some times does a couple of dear jumps in the air before trotting in for a butt sniff. He looks so foolish! :lol:
 
Melissa, that's how Buffy greets dogs and humans she likes, especially ones that are her size or smaller. I think the crawling is pretty darn cute, especially when accompanied by a waggy tail.

If she sees a big dog that she doesn't know, she puts up her tail like she is reserving judgment. Both she and my other Sheltie, Buffy, get this kind of rolling-eyes look if the other dog just keeps sniffing. They just sit there awkwardly until the other dog is done, like "What are you doing back there?" :rolleyes2:
 
Thanks for posting. I still deal with a leash reactive dog that sounds like Quinn, at least with the lunging / barking part, particularly if we are surprised after dark or in narrow streets; and I know for my case that it boils down to a lack of self confidence on my dog's part. The author is absolutely correct regarding the need to relax and breathe .....
