1.5-2hrs with Chelsea. It was horrible.
We were out hiking in a heavily wooded area - she knew it well. She was off chasing chipmunks, I just knew the direction from the sound of her barking. After a while, she just went quiet. I waited, she'd be right along. I waited, no Chelsea. I called her, no answer, no Chelsea.
Went down to the area where she'd been, didn’t find her. Went back to where I'd been waiting, no sign of her. Calling her the whole while. Was really getting concerned by this time. There was a little spring about 5mins away where she always got some water, so I went there to see if that's what she had done. No sign of her. Really concerned was turning into a sickening feeling. What was I going to do? Went to a stream where she always jumped in to bark and bite at the water going past. Wasn't there. Met a couple out for a walk, they hadn't seen her. Told them her name, and told them I was going to head around the trail opposite the direction we had been going, in case she'd continued on.
Got around the trail, almost to the point where we'd become separated, and met the husband of the couple I'd spoken to. They found her, his wife stayed with her, while he came to find me.
Apparently when we got separated, she had gone back to the Jeep, and waited, figuring I wasn't going to be able to leave without her.
One of us kept their wits about them that day.
It wasn't me.
