What other breeds do you love?

OK folks time for audience participation! We did this kind of "survey" a long time ago but time to renew. If you had to choose another breed of dog, what would it be, and why?

Starting off with me. I would say, Doberman would be my somewhat surprising second choice. After that, Greyhound or Borzoi. Dobies are very sensitive, smart and loyal dogs so they have that in common with Shelties. I used to petsit in my younger days and had several Dobie clients. They were absolutely wonderful loving dogs. Another breed I think is really nice is Flat coated Retrievers. They are stunningly beautiful and the couple I have met have been super sweet and nice.

I had several Dobies before Shelties. They are indeed very nice dogs. I had a Goldie, too. But I don't think I would ever go back to a larger dog. Perhaps a King Charles. I spend time with poodle mixes and to be frank the Yorkie, Malti, or any of the doodles just don't strike me as being very smart. Not sure I could go back to "just a sweet dog"...and I don't know what the King Charles average IQ is. Maybe just a cat! LOL

I've always loved Havanese. My Sheltie friends tease me that I can't get away from breeds with a lot of HAIR. I know their coats are probably more work than Shelties but I just love them. We've had Poms and Westies, and our Pom was if possible a worse barker than my Shelties. As long as I'm standing, there will always be a Sheltie in my life.

We’ve had several different dog breeds over the years….my brother had Shepherds, we had Pekingese when I was a kid and then Cockers and a Corgi cross (she was the sweetest dog). And my sister had Bichons…very neurotic barky dogs. After all those experiences I have to say I can never go back to any other breed…they all have their own challenges but Sheltie’s are the only ones for me now.

I had a wonderful Irish setter once- oh what a pain some times but he save our lives one and so loyal and excited to be with you- loved him. Also had a german shepherd border collie mix that was a phenomenally smart dog- smartest ever and I do like German shepherds but they can be a challenge they are so highly driven and big enuf to cause some damages.. I have been attacked and bitten by both G shepherds and Doberman while riding my bicycle on country roads in Texas but still do like Shepherd's... also by a pit bull once and don't like them.

I love Doberman's - male of course - never owned but had a friend with one I loved. He had a baby he carried with him everywhere. So regal....

Only other breed I've owned were Doxies... small standard... one red and white piebald and one black and white piebald. Like Brodie and Deacon, related sort of - couldn't have been much different. Buddy was smart, super trainable, loved the outdoors and would lay all day on our back driveway in the summer, his claim to fame, he travel the entire east coast in a car one year... All the way from the tip of Florida to the eastern most section of land in Newfoundland... cons - he was a poop eater and he could snap.. he respected hubby as boss and tolerated everyone else. Kooper was the most stubborn dog ever, a total love bug, snuggler, hated exercise, took 5 years to potty train him - and he never gave a clue his whole life would just sit by the door... quietly - we had about 5 good years with him after and then towards the end he was in a diaper lots. Funniest memory, trying to pose the dogs in front of the Christmas tree, Buddy sitting as he should, giving the 'sit' command to him over and over and he just slowly crumbled off to his left side and ended up on his side laying flat with his feet stuck out... we caught it on video... he was such a funny dude.

Love my boys though, they are amazing companions, so loving to each of us. Had a sheltie growing up, Sarah Lee, and after the doxies, wanted another and then another, and now potentially another.. maybe. :)
