An undercoat rake is the way to go to get the good fur for yarn-making. Also good for shedding season.

well lets see....2 shelties, a german shepherd, and 5 horses...OMG....I could have sweaters, mittensm, and a scarf in on brushing right now. Everyone is shedding with the warmer weather coming in.

Well I've been in touch with the company and they have told me how much fur I need, I need to collect 4 balls of the stuff for the smallest bear, each ball needs to be about the size of a tennis ball and it will cost me £12.50 ($25 I think ) for one that's 3 inches high. My fur babies have never been groomed as much as they have been in the last few days and at the moment I'll be lucky if I have enough fur to do a teddies arm . As I want a bear a wee bit bigger than 3'' I might still be collecting fur at Christmas time

Oh, I almost forgot! Sometimes I use the hair that my dogs shed for stuffing.
About 2 years ago, I found a place where I could donate my 'raw fiber' to and they'd make products and then proceeds go to the animal shelters. It could have been chiengorafibers.com, but I don't remember.
So, I was trying to collect a few pounds of the fur to donate. A pile may look like a lot, but if you weigh it, you realize you have a long way to go... so I was saving and saving, and it took actually took a little while... well, one day when I got home from work, my big bag was gone
! My cleaner had tossed it out 
. I was a little embarrassed to say I was collecting my dog's fur...
