We use our vision mostly to understand our world but dogs have ears and a tremendous smellier to tell them about their world-- much better in finding hidden information than vision, But yesterday I came into the house from cleaning up doggy loggies and was in the mud room my female Sheltie came around the corner down the hall- about 25 feet away and charged me barking her ferocious- I will eat a lion bark. When she got within about 8 feet or so she stopped barking and wagged her tail and came to greet me, so I started thinking. When she saw me she saw a human but not me and it wasn't until she got withing ode da korper distance did she recognize who I was. I wonder if Sheties have any real sort of facial recognition in their brain or are we just humans till they smell us as a pack member?? We have horrible smellavision compared to theirs and maybe they have no real detail recognition vision like we do. I have often missed that smellavision when I find a pee puddle or something more solid and would like to know which little devil could not wait to go outside.. I am nose blind for sure and maybe they are facial recognition blind too.
