When did you nueter?

Well we had to use the cone. Cooper is by only licking his incision, but licking where his catheter was in his arm and making it raw.

Bailey was licking where the IV was on his shaved paw as well however hasn't touched it much after the first few days. My vet said I could spray a small amount of hydrocortisone on the paw if needed ( but not too much!)- it was not needed

I neuetered Indy and Bacca around 11 or 12 months. Can't remember exactly when.

Callan is just now over 6 months, and I guess I have to start thinking about it sooner than later. But I really had not planned on it for another 4 or 5 months.

But, uuum, while we are on the topic....I can't find his balls! At his last vet check up, she found them.....but I can't...maybe I'm looking in the wrong place? Maybe too much fur? :confused2::confused2: I hope he has not gone cryptoid on me! (I had that with Bacca)

Goodness, I know this may sound weird, but Cooper and Carter had a set of testicles on them. It was so disturbing. Now that Cooper has none, his scrotum is huge. I hope it'll shrink atleast a little!

Even at six months, I swear, you def knew they were there!! Lol

neutered male at 10 months

I'm curious when everyone here nurtered their boys and why? I know some vets and owners are ademenet at doing it around 5-6 months before a dog learns to mark and such but then there's the debate about lack of bone mass and other issues if it's done to early and I've also heard if you nueter you male sheltie to early he won't develop as nice a coat as he would if you waited until he was a year.
So I'm just trying to get the general consensus here on when and why you neutered when you did to help me in my decision. Thanks

I waited till 10 months, was concerned about muscle and bone development. At that time he started making unwanted advances with females. This behavior has stopped and his spunky personality is the same. Vet says we made right decision.

Jocu was neutered in early December (2 yrs)-when you schedule the appointment, make sure you mention that there are upcoming Santa pix.....
WhenI picked him up that afternoon- they asked did I want a cone? I had said no initially, then while we were talking, he started trying to lick the area so I took a cone home. it didn't work very well so I put Callie's old panties on him- no licking and no problems with him trying to remove the panties either.

then when I wasn't so concerned with him licking, I noticed his feathers- gorgeous and untouched. so when we went back in 10 days for checkup/stitch removal, I mentioned how good he looked and the vet said- the head vet tech said we had pictures coming up and that they shouldn't shave him. I was very happy that he didn't have any bald patches for our pix:yes:
He's pretty much totally recovered now:smile2:

As said earlier, i did Indy and Bacca around 11 months. My Callan at 10 months is showing a lot more aggressive behaviour than Indy and Bacca at the same age. Calling the vet this week. Snip, snip! Yes he is starting to mark. Time to nip this one, so to speak.
