When did your sheltie start barking?

right there with ya

Zulu first barked around 10 weeks, while playing. He turned 9 months on Christmas day. About 3 weeks ago, he has started "watch dog" barking. Anything and everything that he thinks requires our attention, he will let us know. Working on "that's enough" as our command to cool it. Looks like we have a barker on our hands....

Kaleigh who didn't bark much is now doing the watch dog barker-ugh...must curb it as HOA frowns on that big time, and frankly so do I. My others weren't really barkers, if they barked it was usually serious and needed my attention.

Savannah is my vocal, I want to be NOTICED barker. She barks at toys, she barks at objects, she barks at dogs that bark when we walk by, she barks if she needs to go out, she barks if she doesn't get enough food or her water is low. All have specific tones, and so I can usually decipher what is amiss in her world, but I am not elated that she is SO vocal, because I know it can get worse. Alas, Savannah will not be ignored, she is diva material and wants the world to know she is "it". I do love her spirit and spunk, but the aim is a nice, quiet, well mannered dog, and somedays I wonder if I will attain that with her, ha.

Cruz was a quiet boy... up until 2 days ago. He has started barking at cars and people from our balcony or window. Though he is quite good after we tell him "quiet" or "that's enough." Hopefully he stays this way!

Callan is 10 months and unneutered. It seems that he is starting to learn his bark from his big brother Indy. We are working on that and mostly we are successful. It stars with contolling Indy so he does not teach the pup bad behaviour. Its a work in progresss

I didn't notice Missy barking when she was still at the breeder, doesn't mean she didn't. But as soon as I brought her home, she was very vocal. Lots of her barking was either separation anxiety or trying to get my attention. I managed to get her to stop barking at me for attention. She's pretty quiet inside now, rarely makes a peep. But if she's outside playing.. she's very very noisy! She barks nonstop at flyball, even with the ball in her mouth. Barks at agility too. A lot of people would classify her as "pushy".

Now that Oberon seemingly has figured out that he can bark, he's barking more. He barked twice today, not sure at what. Each time he came running to where I was with his tail held high as if to proudly say, "See what I did!"

I got Enzo at 14 weeks, and as soon as I opened the crate in my parents' kitchen, he saw his reflection in the oven and immediately started barking! My dad and I just looked at each other and laughed, we thought it was the funniest thing!

As a younger puppy he would bark at anything he could with gusto, but now that he's a little older he's more discerning about what he barks at. Some things get low woofs, others get barks, when meeting new people he whines excitedly, and scary things get the full-on RAHRAHRAHRAHRAH! I try to curb the last type though.
