When do the growth plates close?

I agreed to wait to neuter my big boy until the growth plates close. Does anyone have an approximate age? He is 8 months old.

Our breeder also asked us to wait to neuter Mikos for that reason and said between 12 and 18 months. Mikos was really easy going and not acting very boyish until Brie arrived so he wasn't done until 14 months old. I'm sure others with more knowledge can give you a better answer.

Typicialy they are usually pretty much closed up by 12 to 14 months, That's why most of us doing agility wait till around then to start jumping our dogs at full hight, also that why dogs are not allowed to enter competition till 18 months of age , just to make sure that every thing is closed. So for neutering
I would say 14 months should be good. I watch the dog myself when they start to get agressive about marking territory then I usually book them in.

I made the appt., the deed will soon be done. He just turned 1 year old. He's such a sweetie, I hope all will be fine.

I do not want to wait much longer, it would be even harder on me! I promised his breeder to neuter him, and so it will be done. He is 19" at the withers.

12 months old sounds like a good compromise to me. :smile2:
