When to wean down!

Megan is 16 weeks old and for the past week I have been feeding her 4 small meals a day with the last one being around 8:45-9:00. If you all recall I posted about her having the dry heaves in the AM so I have been doing her last meal late to keep her belly full all night. It seemed to work till this AM when she had the dry heaves but I am praying that was because I have been trying to feed her different canned food.

Anyway when should I start feeding her 3 meals instead of 4?:confused2:

How many meals you feed is up to you and your schedule; look at the total cups/calories of food including snacks and look at your girl's weight. If she is pudgy, cut back a meal entirely. If she is very lean/skinny; keep the total amount of food but divide it into two or three portions. Here at 16 weeks we feed two meals and a snack/midday training treats.

When I pick her up, pet her etc, Megan seems like the perfect weight to me. I can feel her ribs but not too easily and she is not a chow hound so I dont think she is chubby. Ineterstingly enough she's not too hungry in the AM when she first wakes up but her other meals she seems fine with. How old are your furbabies??

We just had over first incident with Trapp having dry heaves in the morning. It happened two mornings ago. He brought up two little piles of bile on the bed. I brought him out in the kitchen,he got a drink of water, and he was just fine. Actually went back to sleep. He ate his breakfast as usual at 6:30am,was fine the rest of the day.

I don't think she needs 4 meals a day, especially one so late in the evening. Cause what goes in..must come out! And since I don't know her potty regimen, she may need to go out in the very early morninig,or in the night.

I would try the 3 meals, maybe just a small healthy snack prior to bed,or maybe something really yummy & healthy to chomp on in the later part of the evening.

Trapp is down to 2 meals a day here.

There have been occasions he is very vocal at lunch. If a few green beans (frozen) or maybe a carrot, ice cube, does'nt satisfy him,I will take just 1/3 of his supper meal, and give it to him.

The rest of his measured supper is not fed until 5pm. After that, either of the dogs get any food. Maybe a treat, but thats it. I know the flossies I got, gosh darn, that Trapp just loves chewing on his.

How old is Trapp, 20 weeks right? Megan doesnt usually make a peep once we put her in her crate around 9:30 at night, so she holds it all in till 6:ish. Maybe I'll try 3 meals a day with her last one being before bed. I am just so afraid of those dry heaves!!:eek2:

Bacca was on two meals a day from 8 weeks old. Never an issue, and obviously much easier to house train (what goes in, must come out). He slept through the night from the start.

I would wean to 3 meals, followed in about a month or so to 2 meals. You can maintain the same calorie input, such condense it.

Also, since she's at the age to start training, she'll also be filling up on treats for training, so you want her to be hungry for those too.
