Whiskey...or Houdini?

My Lab Jo could open anything. Doors, latches, kennels, drawers etc. My Dad had to put a dead bolt on the open of the doors where she couldn't physically get them so she didn't escape out of the house. The drawers, cupboards and refridge all had child safety latches on them to keep her out. And people say they want smart dogs.:rolleyes2:

Honestly, sometimes I wonder about Meggie when I read these threads. She is such a dopey little girl sometimes. She won't even push open a door that is ajar so she can go through. It's like she's afraid of it or something. We are back in FL now and I opened the slider and then the screen door of the lanai so that she could go outside at her leisure. She will not go out there unless I go with her. She will stay out there by herself if I go back inside, but she will not go out unless I go too. When she was a puppy, she would not cross the threshold to the lanai. I had to carry her over it. This went on for the longest time. I would tempt her with treats, etc., but she was afraid for some reason. She accidentally crossed it one time when there was a squirrel in the back yard. After that she was good to go. It took her forever to use the doggie door. My cat, Panda, would escape from her through the doggie door onto the lanai and she would sit there and watch him outside.

It's a good thing she's the cutest thing ever!

I'm sorry MoonshineDad, I didn't mean to hijack your thread and not even comment on Whiskey's new talent!! How cute that he covered himself in your paperwork! Perhaps your scent was on the paperwork.

You mentioned not crossing a threshold..maybe differances in flooring? Maybe thats why she was hesitant.

I saw the same thing here with Trapp & Jasper is doing it now also.Going from living room,to sunporch, then another threshold,to go outside. They got over it,and Jasper is making strides~

Bumper had the same problem, getting aquainted with differant floor textures, being blind we had to take some time getting her used to the lay of the house.

He did leave you the pieces rather than tossing them down the Sheltie recycler :eek2:

Go Alcatraz on him. Put him in the same thing but zip tie it and bungie it so there is no way he can do it. Duct tape it if needed for a few days. At his age you want him to think a fence is a wall and a door is a window, once he starts thinking he can open and get through stuff it is almost impossible to reverse. <two cents>
