Will an older puppy bond to us?

Oh and Spitfire grew up Timmy. But due to a lot of reasons (not the usual bad ones) he was not socialized a ton. He even associated someone bending down with capture and being put outside rather than petting. So his name association was pretty low. Then he earned his current name :lol: He also answers to crazy man.
 
As to names, mine answer to just about anything including any variation of their names and their nicknames.
 
My Beau was three when I got him. As with everything else, it takes time and patience. he will be confused at first and its up to you to first build TRUST, the rest will follow.

Dec 9 will be mine and Beau' 4th anniversary. The other day I was taking a shower, I pulled the curtain back and there he was right in the bathroom with me, he got scared by a loud construction noise and came looking for me. Yep, I'm proud to be a Mamma Dog:yes:. He knows he can come to me and I will comfort him. give him belly rubs until he can't stand anymore and has to finally get up and go to crate just to get some peace and quiet from me.
 
I got my boy from a Sheltie show breeder, at the age of one. (The breeder said that he was being grown out for show, but went oversized.) He was the perfect doggie, in every way, including bonding.

Hopefully it works out...trying not to get my hopes up but its impossible!
 
I got Piper (not the name she came with) from a breeder 5 days after her 1st birthday. Logan (who was 6 months) wanted a big sister :smile2:

My concern was that I have 5 cats and although Piper had been around barn cats she hadn't actually lived with kitties.

Piper bonded with Logan immediately.

She learned her new name by the first evening.

By the 5th day she was curling up in my lap.

Piper has always been very good with the cats. The only time she gets in a snit is if they get too close to her food bowl.

I couldn't imagine loving her more; it was a great decision to welcome her into our family.

My advice - go for it!

I wouldn't expect nine months to be too old at all. We rescued a three year old sheltie and within about a month, her bond to my husband was like nothing I've ever seen before. I wouldn't be too concerned with the cat issue unless the breeder has noticed a really significant amount of prey drive in him. Even then, I've never had too much angst with smallish herding breeds and cats, not quite enough size difference.
 
If I am home, I am Casey's world. Casey was six years old when I met his owner, now my husband. If we can bond at six years, then you can bond at nine months.
 
We are going to meet him tonight....:)

We just moved into a new house this summer so we don't have a fence or grass yet...but the breeder is nice enough to hold him for us until we are ready to take him in about a month or so. You can tell she really loves this guy and just wants him to find the right home :)
