Yogurt

You should also check to see if the label says made with live cultures. It will keep the good microorganisms in their digestive tracts.

Mine love yogurt. I have even made a frozen yogurt treat for them. Some kibbles contain blueberries as well.

Just one warning about people yogurt - more so to people than dogs, I guess: watch out for yogurt that contains "carmine". Carmine means crushed up beetles and has been found in at least one name brand yogurt (Dannon). I saw this on the news the yesterday - pretty disgusting.:eek2:

With milk and milk products you can eat an animal without having to kill the animal. Pure extract of cow. I used to go to the supermarket and buy a gallon of whole milk for each of my three kids. That way I was sure that, whatever other junk they were consuming, they were at least getting properly nourished.

I was just about to mention that when I saw your post. I just heard it on the news a few minutes ago. 'Pretty disgusting' is an understatement in my book.:ick I'm glad I don't eat yogurt! My mom loves the Dannon STRAWBERRY yogurt (which is one of the flavors with the bugs). It's just plain sick.

Carmine is also used in many cosmetics; it apparently has a stability missing in synthesized colorings. I wouldn't worry too much about the fact that it's made from insects. By the time it gets to the finished stage, there's nothing of the insect left.

Remember the red colouring you used for colouring your pretty pink cupcakes as a child. Well that was cochineal - boiled up little bugs too. It's been used for centuries, the alternative is artificial colours so it's a balance of insect vs chemical. Remember we're talking about something for dogs - I really don't think they'll mind eating insects, in fact it would probably make it more appertising.

My doctor for humans highly recommends Dannon Yogurt. I give the shelties a dab over regular cheerios. Its their appetizers. Oh my. They love it.
