You will probably think I'm a bad mom, but...

If you can't get to any other store but a supermarket,( they are convenient!) I would go with IAMS. Sandstorms breeder always fed nutro-natural, which is what we feed. It is not in supermarkets, and is a step up from IAMS nutritionally, but not that different. The breeders shelties lived until 15 yrs of age. If your dog is in great health, IAMS would be fine, I think. I also have a very small kitchen and use a plastic container on wheels with a snap-on lid. I can fit a 30 lb bag of dog food in it- without the bag, the bag won't fit in it. That is just the way I have to do it, and buying the big bags is alot cheaper.

You are not a bad mom AT ALL, I completely 110% agree with you!! :biggrin2:

Man I could've sworn I wrote on this post or a similar one a while back....

I'd check out some "alternate" suppliers in your area. Petsmart/Petco may not be a viable option for you. But there are stores like Whole Foods, Earth Fare and Trader Joes which carry some pretty decent dog foods.

In rural areas there are grain and tractor supply stores which carry foods for cows, horses, and dogs and they usually have some pretty good stuff.

Then of course there are the local pet stores. Most communities still have these stores and they will often have better quality foods.

Costco carries a fairly good brand of food called Kirkland Premium something or other. The store called "Tractor Supply" carries a brand I've heard others recomend on these forums.

I've had dogs who have lived great lives on Kibbles & bits, as well as just plain alpo back in the day but after 2007 I'm really paranoid about the typical grocery store brands being recalled. If your lucky the dog just gets sick, if not...well I don't even want to think about that. If your going to go for a grocery store brand just make sure to watch websites like http://www.truthaboutpetfood.com/ every day to see if there have been any recalls or hints of problems with specific foods.

I would also be more cautious if all of a sudden your dog starts having some serious digestive problems. The vet or you might jump to the conclusion it's some sort of infection/worm/disease when in reality it's something in the food.
