My Abby goes wonky with other dogs barking on tv..heck, she watches tv..LOL
Clancy will bark at other dogs if he's in the house and can hear them outside...he doesn't care about if its on videos or tv.
I taught mine to bark on command...then taught them the "quiet" command. The theory is, if you teach them to bark on command, its easier to teach them to stop..they understand better what you want from them.
Mine still bark of course, but I can get them to stop pretty fast.
I agree, the calmer you are the faster they quiet down...
If they are barking crazy, then their human is moving fast and talking loud...they percieve that as you are all upset and 'barking' too..it feeds off each other. So the calmer you are, the quicker they will quiet down.
Now again my Abby..she is crazy!! Its like she just can't help herself sometimes ...If we want to watch something with animals or sports...she either has to be crated or we have her sit with us on the couch..otherwise she is barking and boinging in front of the tv...
So I believe their are exceptions with some dogs...they just cannot stop..so you have to come up with some solution to live together..

I like michelle taught a quiet command. I also played tons of noise tapes when the dogs were puppies to get them use to different sounds. I have 2 dogs who weirded out over different sounds and didn't want another.
