I took Zak to a shopping center this morning to walk and he did fine and we were coming back through the court yard area and there was a young boy and he actually backed up and did not want approach him. I kneeled down and he went behind me. I offered the boy a treat to give him even after that he was not so sure. He would back up with a low grrrr.
Then there were 3 people sitting on a bench and he did the same thing again, I knelled down again and talked to him. They also had a bag on the ground. I asked one of the ladies to give him a treat but they would not. Then after that he was antsy about a sign that on on a stand in the walk way.
Now he did not take his usual morining nap so maybe he was just tired. I will take him back there on Monday.
Do they have a fear stage after 5 months?

We have the same thing with Beckon -- apparently it's part of the hormonal shift. Socialize, socialize, socialize!!!

Beckers is 10 months, and he gets the exact same way with unfamiliar dogs -- it's a fear-aggression thing. He's working through it, but I understand it happens much more with boys. (Thanks, Connie, for explaining all this to me today!)

Bailey did the same thing today too. She met two toddlers, who wanted to pet her. She was terrified. She didn't know what they were. She backed up and when I knelled down to get her to sit calmly, she was trying to get away. So, I told their dad that Bailey was too scared. I didn't want to take the chance of her fear turning into aggression. She wasn't showing any signs of aggression, but she was beyond terrified.

We need Connie to explain it to all of us!! Odd thing is Zak's breeder has a 22 month old boy. But I guess not seeing him as much he is unsure of the little ones. I need to get him out and about more this week. Why males more than females?
