    Question for agility handlers

One of the basic things that you should be working on is a good Sit and stay/hold. I use Stay only for when Ella needs to be released when I am at her side and hold means that she can be released when I'm not at her side. My first obedience classes might have taught using negative...

Dogged Pursuit - by Robert Rodi

Just got finished with this book and what a funny, enlightening read. I tend to feel like him in that I look around and think, wow I don't look like anyone here! But still enjoy it nonetheless. Never heard of a Cryptic Blue before this either.

    Agility Focus

Also, just learn your dog and how they work. Ella preforms the best when I take her for about 15 minute walk before we get in the car for agility. And, when we get to our classes, our trainer lets allthe dogs run off leash in the ring for about 5 minutes to 'get the sillies out' (as I used...

We were going to try to get Ella to do that, but shes a bit too nuts!

    advice for positive training (w\clicker)

Have you primed the clicker? Priming is simply clicking and treating, without the dog doing anything. This gives the dog a positive connotation with the clicker and the click itself. That could help the dog not be afraid of the clicker. Also, use high value treats (pure chicken, or...

    The Face behind the Name....!

Wow, great pictures by everyone, great to place the Sheltie with the human, or the picture with the screenname, however you want to put it! I figured everyone has seen Ella, the color headed white, so it's time to post some pictures of me and my family. I'm getting married in October at...

    Non-traditional toys

Ella LOVES LOVES LOVES gatoraide/20 oz plastic water bottles. She loves biting things that do not give way, or that push back against her jaws (she constantly bites my parents carpet because she can get her teeth caught in it and bite down so hard without her jaws closing). Size 1 or Size...

Bringing home a new pup - Food question

Hi Barb, it was gradual, it was mixed in with her old food, I'll slowly transition her within the next few weeks. She definitely does have a stomach of iron though, she has NEVER had any diarraeah in the 1 year I've had her, regardless of what she has ate. (Knock on wood).

Bringing home a new pup - Food question

Hi Guys, Just wanted to say thanks to everyone here for talking about the types of food everyone has. I was feeding Ella Pro Plan and after reading everyone's comments, concerns, and some of the feedback on other websites, we switched her to Blue Buffalo today. I just put out her first...

Replyka is being nasty with Caliber...is this normal?

Most people say not to use the crate for 'bad behavior' so it does not gain a negative connotation, but it sounds like you are doing it right. When Ella used to get too out of hand, and get downright annoying like a 2 yr old who needed a nap, I just said 'naptime' and put her in her crate...

    Dealing with a lick-aholic

Ella knows that when I come home from soccer, she can get a good lick. She loves the salt from all the sweat. But, she only does it to me, not to anyone else.

    Control Unleashed Discussion Group

Thanks for the reply! I've joined the CU Yahoo group and have the mp3's so that will help definitely. I'm tempted to move on pretty quickly through the book, but want to start learning and make sure I don´t forget things, so we'll start at square 1! Glad to see that other people are...

    Control Unleashed Discussion Group

A second question is that with the CU training, what order do most people start in? I read the entire book when I was on vacation last week and want to get to work, but wasn't sure it most people start from night one and work on? Or do they just focus on what they think their dog needs the most...
