2nd class and already a star!!

Emma and I had her 2nd Obedience class tonight and she is doing fantastic!! I will say (have to take SOME credit!!) I have been working with her for months now. But she is getting the commands very well!! Only one - two times on each command (and of course keep reinforcing it over time) and so far she is great!! Even the trainer said so! (so it must be true!!! hahaha)

Her socialization with the other dogs etc... is awesome!! Her best bud Trevor is an Alaskan Husky (very handsome and such a gentleman if I must say so!!)

Although, while we were doing the walking on the leash, Emma was blind sided, bum rushed and snapped at by Barack a cocker spaniel. I was proud of Emma, she just thumbed her nose up at him and stepped BEHIND me hahaha. Barack's owner had him on a retractable leash and she did not have control of it and he was able to run as far as he wanted (to get at Emma) until she "noticed" what he was doing. (Keep in mind, the trainer ASKED everyone last week to NOT bring retractable leashes this week).

Now, I LOVE all dogs, but I have learned something about one breed...there are 2 begals (adorable) in the class but you can hardly hear the trainer over their constant barking. I never realized they were so vocal. One sits next to us and Emma just lays there staring at him LOL

Che and I suck at competitive heeling as I find it so boooring and so is my buddy by association... we are trying rally now. Personally if someone shows up with retractable lead to class I would make a loud announcement to ask if anyone had extra lead to borrow and make big fuss about it, also will stay away from this dog and its owner/ stupidity usually goes both ways/. Training facility we go most to has a bunch of slip leads just for such cases.

My trainer would never allow a retractable leash in class. That is just plain dangerous :eek2:

I am so glad to hear that your class went so well. And of course your pup is the "star." Hardworking parent plus brilliant sheltie could only equal a perfect team :wink2:

My trainer never allowed retractables either. Great that she is doing so well with class, of course we knew she would.

My obedience school includes a leash and collar in the cost of the class. Retractable leashes are most certainly not allowed:smile2:
Of course, they had nothing small enough to accommodate Zoey.
:o

That's OK, I already had a little collar and leash on her. And they did give me a leash she can use when she "grows up."

That's great to hear, except about the attack by that one dog. :( I had a person who couldn't control their pit, but most importantly couldn't control their three kids. They inevitably would sit next to Monet and make noise.

I really wish I was in the class with you! I'm now in the Saturday Intermediate class.

Ahh, I wish we were in the classes at the same time too! Would be fun! I did take Noelle to Pet Smart today and talked to Becka...she is a great trainer!! She spent time with Noelle and I and worked with her on sitting; helped to fit her with a harness and leash (I bought the wrong size cuz she was smaller than I thought)..

I was telling her about the aggressive move from the other dog and she said she was so glad I spoke up and said something to the lady (the trainer did not see it). Then she said that that lady was asking her about the type of leash to have......hehehe...I told her "yes, I saw her talking to you right after her pup went after Emma"....so I am glad that the lady at least asked the trainer for her guidance. (even though the trainer told everyone the week before not to bring those type of leads, only a leash).

I will be putting Noelle in the beginner class too in a few weeks; then wait to put them both in the next level.

Call when you get a chance; we will get the 3 of them together...Monet will love Noelle!! :biggrin2:
