8 1/2 month old puppy and housetraining

Thanks everyone! I know we'll get there eventually. It is tough bringing an older pup in and trying to train her as though she's still young. It's easier having two older ones for her to learn from (good and bad habits), so hopefully sooner than later she'll stop using the carpet as her toilet.
 
Sandstorms house trained also

Hi, Sandstorm also is house trained at 6.5 months. I left him yesterday in a gated hallway (small) for 6 hours and he was fine. We crate at night. We also watch him closely. What really helps I think is feeding only twice a day- 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. He has had this schedule since 5 months old. He gets cookies in the afternoon, not many because he is HUGE!

That sounds perfect for his age, but beware that between now and about 10 months, he may slip into rebellious teenage mode, so continue what you are going.

I kept my boys in crates at night until at least 14 months, if I recall.

Last night at 3:30 a.m., Sandstorm started crying to go out! I pretended I was asleep so hubby would take him out, which he did :lol:He put Sandstorm back in his crate- crying again! :cry:I let him out, and he slept on the couch, which is what he wanted. No accidents though. :no:

Oh..I been down this road,and it ain't pretty especailly if it happens about 4 days in a row.I get rather cranky if I have to get up in the middle of the night.But I got thru it.

Trapp started having his 4:30 wake up call pretty much when Jasper came home.He would hear him stir in the night,while he was in his crate.Although Jasper has not had one night that he has not slept thru.Extremely fortunate with him.

At the time Trapp was on our bed,and never fail,he would wake one of us up.So we would get up,let him out to potty,and he would go right for Earnhardt on the couch.So that's where he wanted to be,and that's where we left him.
So far since Jasper has been home,Trapp now sleeps with Earnie.And we have no more 4:00am-4:30 wake up calls.
And mommy is much better natured!:biggrin2:
 
Amazingly, none of ours ever did the midnight whittle call. If we heard a whimper, I just put my hand over the side of the bed where the puppy could smell me and said, "Go to sleep." That did it! :yes:

You poor thing, I would find that very frustrating to deal with especially after being outside for 30 minutes! I'm sure you know as soon as you see him squat, RUN with him outside, praise, praise when he finishes. I'm sure that has been posted already :rolleyes2:

Hell ya I get sooo frustrated and soooo COLD but i try to wait him out so i can praise him when he goes. I take him to my familys house and they have older shelties ..i thought if Snickers saw them poo outside (which he has many times) he would catch on .Ummm still not getting it .... so we are still trying.
