A Hard Lesson

Wow Ann what a story-- so glad you are more or less OK. Cars can be replaced lives can not. I used to use crates for may dogs as well and as you say they are safer in most instances. I have gone to buckling my dogs in harness to the head rest but that means they could tumble around some as in your case. Crates are often harder to extract dogs from but you never know-- I think mine are more comfortable on the seat but as you say not as safe.. Again so lucky you did not have your dogs with you and you are well.

This must’ve seemed like a bad dream Ann…to go from driving down a road to BAM…and suddenly everything is upended! Thank goodness you didn’t have a dog with you but interesting and good to hear the crate and your flowers were in perfect condition…clearly a testament to that brand! Hopefully you can find a used vehicle that doesn't break the bank!
I hope you feel better quickly!

First car and then first SUV, originally dogs free on the back seat and then we got seat belts. Then I moved up to a larger SUV to put crates in for the dogs. bought a Pacifica last summer for better crating arrangements. I love that the seats fold down into the floor so they're there if you need them:yes:
I have 3 RoughTough crates and 1 Ruffland because my original crates were from before they changed the name:winkgrin: I have 3 mediums and 1 small for Destin.

I have a red Pacifica! I LOVE LOVE LOVE that car! The stow and go seating is so cool and I can do it myself. Most people downsize cars when they retire but I went from a Honda Civic to the Pacifica. Of course I had three dogs at the time. But I can't say enough good things about my van! Ann should check them out!

Thursday I was in a serious auto crash. My SUV was hit from behind by a driver at such high speed that the back of my car went airborne, flipped and rolled, landing on the driver's side. I was pulled from the car by a good samaritan who broke the windshield before the police and EMTs arrived. The driver fled the scene and was apprehended shortly afterward.

My car was totaled; I got a ride to the hospital from an ambulance. I'm home, and yesterday DH and I went to remove what we could from my battered car. I was surprised to find the only thing that survived the crash, completely intact, was the hard-sided plastic crate I keep in the back hatch for my dogs. Inside was a bouquet of flowers I'd gotten for my granddaughter and put there for the trip home, totally intact and perfect. One of my first thoughts when the car stopped moving was thank heaven I don't have a dog in the car. Seeing how my crate survived was very comforting.

The accident happened at noon. I was returning home from a few errands...normally something I might take a dog along for the ride. Sometimes I even let them ride in the front passenger seat. This was completely unexpected and from all reports I was very lucky to survive. I will never let a dog in the car again outside of a crate. In a millisecond, my life changed, but a dog in the crate would have been safe. A lesson I wanted to share...you just never know.
I'm so glad you are okay!!!! How scary! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

So scary Ann!!!! My goodness... glad you were not seriously hurt. Cars can be replaced....

My mom was in an accident years ago. Visiting my oldest sister, she ran out to pickup food for lunch and left dad at home with my nephew. Woman, also drunk as a skunk at noon - uninsured - went through a telephone pole, t-boned mom at her door and the pole landed on both cars. Mom was cut out with the jaws of life - shattered her hips, pelvis, shoulders. She was hospitalized for ages, I remember dad coming home and we survived a hurricane here in CT together back in the 80's. Mom had passed out, never remembered anything, her hair including eyebrows, turned white from the experience.

Sometimes God wraps his hands around us, sheltering us from further harm. So glad you were safely wrapped up - and amazing that you had a good samaritan who helped. So many will just continue driving, unwilling to get involved.

Hope you are feeling better this week.
