We went to the ASCA Big Kahuna trial on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Friday I had the dog of my dreams, responsive and fun and oh so happy!
We were doing well right up to the last directed jump .... the crowd gasped when he decided to take the high jump instead of the bar, and so ended our first time ever in utility competition...
I was very happy with our NQ because my boy was everything I dreamed he could be, in effort if not execution. ( He felt the pressure of the judge standing to my right which was in the path of his trip over the correct bar jump, something I should have prepared him for!)
Saturday morning we tried again, we had a little struggle with a couple exercises but he was able to hold the principle parts together, and our first UD leg came with a 181 and 2nd place!
On Sunday, I should have heard him more clearly, he was tired. It had been a long weekend for us and we were house sitting for a friend Saturday night, he played with her shelties and we didn't rest too well. He got a bee sting on his toe about half hour before ring time... and well, he blew the stand stay on signals walking in a few too many steps, only to be correct on the rest of the exercises.
So, it ended with me a little upset with myself, but I will take the lessons learned to heart ~ brag about our 1st UD leg, and set our sights on the next trial weekend: an AKC show where we will go for CDX leg# 1 on Saturday, Grad Open leg # 3 on Saturday, and on Sunday we will be looking for our first RAE leg....
I hope that we will find time to get ready for puppy, coming late August!
