having someone who loves you and takes care of you during/after a seizure is reassuring and comforting. They are exhausting and confusing. You did the absolutley best thing for her.

Her body failed her Michelle, not you. You gave her all that you could. When Kassy, my beloved mare of over 22 years passed last August, I beat myself up with could have, should have and the maybe of what I might have been able to do. In the end I realized that she had a good life full of love and security. Many horses have more than 12 owners in one lifetime and end up in a tin of dog meat. Kassy had her breeder, then Art for 2 years and then us. She never wanted for anything, she got the best of the best and we did everything we could to keep her from injury. She knew what to expect from us everyday. She never knew a day of hunger or thirst. She was never worked hard and was only ridden by people with knowledge of horsemanship. The day she died was violent - we found her thrashing when we went to bring the horses in. It was too late to save her. Three hours earlier she was grazing contentedly. We had the vet end her suffering quickly. I wear a piece of her forelock in a locket. What I am trying to say is I know only too well how impotent you felt during Pudding's last hours. I know the deep sense of loss as well. I choose to remember Kassy as she was for all the rest of her life with me instead of dwelling on her last hours. She was beautiful, loyal, brave and strong. Our bond was such that although she was in horrible pain she got up because I begged her to. In the end I let her go because she looked at me and let me know she couldn't fight anymore. I will carry her in my heart the rest of my life but while I am here I want to be able to smile when I think of her. She is the picture on my screensaver and each night I force myself to remember a good day with her before shutting down the computer. She
wouldn't want me to suffer any more that I wanted her to.
Thank you, JoannI have only just read your log and the tears flowed; for you for Pudding for me and for my lost Jess. My three shelties came running to me and nuzzled at my legs. As others have said already it is so sad, but let the happy memories become greater than the loss. You are in my thoughts

It's almost that time of the year again. August is fast approaching. Pudding's 2nd year death anniversary. It's been a hard weekend for me. Been thinking a LOT about my baby girl. ♥. Re-reading this log was very difficult for me, haven't since I wrote it 2 years back. Any hugs or kind words during this time is much appreciated.
