Another crate question

My standard indoor kennel are 24"L x 18w x 21"H. They work great for my size shelties(15" and under) and puppies. Mine have a front door and a top door. I can't tell you how great the top door is from puppies.:smile2: No running puppies first thing in the morning. easy to start kennel training. Love it. I have the same size just slightly bigger in soft sided crates. I use those for shows and 2 shelties can easily fit in them.

For the car I got a 42"(I think) kennel, it fits in the back of my mini van behind the seats and came with a divider that I can make into 2 crates if needed. I sometimes need it for a Rottweiler or 2 or a Malamute so I like the big size. I can easily fit 6 to 8 shelties in the kennel if they get along.:smile2:

I crusie the petstores looking for discountinued crates or old models. Over the years, I got 4 soft crates from Petsmart for $12/piece once and 3 metal ones for $11/piece. I got 4 sherpa bags for $7/piece once too. You just have to look for when models change. When I find a bargain I buy them all, I always know someone who needs a crate:smile2:.

Someone once told me, you know when your serious about dogs when your crate to dog ratio hits 4:1. 1 for the house,1 for the car,1 for the hotel room, and 1 for the show site.:smile2:

PS: You just hit 1000 posts!

My metal crates are 30"x21"x24". I wanted to make sure that they had room to stretch and sit with out having to bend their heads down. This way, they can sit nice and tall (I need it to train proper sits for agility)

For fun, In my head, I just added up all the crates between the house in Connecticut and the house in Maine. Including all the wire folding crates for shows, I came to a whopping 34 crates! Oh, adding in the puppy size #100's, that adds another 4. I never realized I had so many!

If you ever decide to go out of the business, please post your "garage sale" on the forum first!

And this is just crates....I can't imagine what you have in grooming equipment (my favourite topic!). Actually, never mind the forum, just PM me directly! :wink2::wink2::biggrin2:

Wow, Meggie only has two. A plastic one for transport and the wooden one in the livingroom. That one is 37" long, 25" wide and 26" tall. She's a twerp and she has much more room than she needs. Both she and Lucy can be in there with plenty of room to spare. That's little Lucy in the picture.
