Anti-Cuddler?

Emma will lie close to me at nights, will cuddle sometimes, but most times likes to go lay by herself. Hamish and Noah were the same.

Liam does love to crawl on my knee and cuddle close for a while and then go about his business.

Natalie is the cuddler. She loves to curl up in my arms and get hugged up.

All are different.
 
I have one of each.

Bentley likes to be near us--on the couch, the foot of the bed, etc...but not on us. And it wasn't until after we got Lexi that he wanted to be touching us. Probably when he was around 3 years old he decided that he liked laying up against us. Only once did he ever willingly climb onto me--and I contend that he was confused! :lol:

Lexi is a bit like Diva that Shelli mentioned. She is seriously cuddly and affectionate...when she's either tired or nervous. Either one of those and she wants to be on top of us at all times. On my lap, sleeping on my legs, my chest, around my neck, etc...
 
Oh boy, Ally is the anti-cuddler. She will only allow it if she is very, very tired. She hops up on the couch with us but lays on the far end. She hates being picked up and held closely. SIGH. You just can't take it personally.

Lucky for me, Asta loves to cuddle. Her favorite thing is to be on my lap when I'm in the recliner. She settles down instantly and goes to sleep. Only trouble is she's 29 pounds! I love it though.
 
Mine is turning 6 year this week and never was and never is and never will be a cuddler. He loves to come and get his chest rubbed, ear scratched and butt massaged, but never cuddle. I feel like so lucky if he stays on the other side of couch when I sit on the couch. Normally he jumps down if I move around too much (that is his definition of too much). I do wish he cuddles once a while, but I gave that up long time ago (plus I have a maltese who is nothing but a cuddler).
 
I was thinking the same thing as others...maybe Shelties just aren't cuddlers? But then, you have a dog like Koji. It may be his separation anxiety though. lol

Koji (almost 5) wasn't a cuddler until....maybe 2 years ago. So when he was 3. He would lie next to you, but didn't like being all snuggly with you. And then one day, we realized he liked to lay ON you practically. He likes to lie up against me and get close and snuggly. Crazy dog.

But then, Miko who was cuddly as a puppy, lost that as he aged too. Now, he'll lie next to you if you're on the ground and maybe on the couch, but otherwise, he'll go find himself a spot alone.

Trust me, sometimes, you really don't want to have a dog on you constantly. Hubby lies on the couch and Koji likes to plop himself right between hubby's legs. I love watching him flinch because yes, Koji literally plops himself down. Ouch. I have been woken up because Koji is whining...nope, not to go out, but because he doesn't have enough room to lie next to me and have me put my arm(s) around him. So, don't wish too hard. I did and now I have a dog who MUST sleep next to me. LOL.

I would give it some time. I noticed Koji really did not like being held, or near us, etc when he was a puppy. Check back in a couple of years. ;p
 
Shelties are funny little creatures! Both Brandi & Brady were very snuggly puppies but as they grew older Brady became less cuddly. He likes to spend time lying by the kitchen door or in front of the fridge door ... and is often very independant.

Brandi will remain in the room with me or doorway when I'm busy and doing things in different rooms around the house. She is more of a snuggler and will often sleep on my lap for 15 or 20 mins at a time. I will put her up on the bed at bedtime and we have a 5-10 minute snuggle session ... she loves to have the top of her head rubbed and then we do a Sheltie hug where she will snuggle into my neck and cuddle before I put her down into her bed on the floor next to mine.

They both love to follow me around the house from room to room ... I actually have to be careful sometimes not to turn and move too quickly because they are close on my heels. When I get down on the floor and play with them ... they love it and Brady loves to get right into my face and sniff sniff sniff ... every once in a while he will give a few kisses but he won't do the Sheltie hug like Brandi.

When I come home from work or getting groceries they are both very excited to see me ... they are jumping up and sniffing ... but it is Brandi who will shower me with kisses. <3
 
Pebbles sleeps next to me and follows me everywhere but she is definitely not a cuddler and I like it that way too. She has a strong personality and needs her space and privacy and with her ears pointing up (totally not sheltie like) I think it suits her! :) One of my cats on the other hand always falls asleep hugging my arm with both paws, so I get my fluffy sunggle dose that way...
 
I have a couple who like to snuggle. Athena didn't when younger... She was so busy she couldn't sit still. Now though she likes to be on the couch with me, and at night, she wants to lay curled up right next to me. Kai, Lark, Ember, and Caleb all also like to. In fact, last night I woke up burning up because Lark was laying between Brandon and I, Athena was laying up against my other side, and Kai was laying between my legs. It was hot in bed with all of them. Blaze, Damon, and Dasher are all too young and busy... Dasher probably being the least cuddly and affectionate. He is just very aloof at this point toward people. Aurora cuddles on her own terms, and only if it is only me on a couch or bed.
 
My two rescues are quite affectionate. Lottie likes to be touching me while on the couch or in bed. Cooper is right on top of you if you let him. Sometimes I let him just because I feel bad for always telling him to get off. My little Meggie is not so affectionate although she always wants to be in the same room with me.

he cuddles in bed, or jumps on my lap to want me to hold his bone for him, lol, or to cuddle and sleep on my lap... mind you he is kinda too tall to do that.. but he does it, especially if I am about to cuddle the kitty... so they both sit on me, sometimes neihgbour's poodle my step dog joins us there too, lol
It's rather precarious!

Although not a perma cuddler like my Boxer used to be, she wanted to lay on me or at least against at all times :hide
