Anyone using Revolution?

Rachael is correct. Revolution does not kill deer ticks. It only says that it kills the American dog ticks.

I would not use Revolution for tick control, as there are many kinds of ticks such as Deer ticks, Brown Dog Ticks, Lone Star Ticks, etc. I would not use a product that only works on one type of tick.

That's odd. I'm looking at the box that April's Revolution came in (Canadian), and Ticks are listed.

That's weird, I had a conversation with a vet about Revolution when I was considering buying it. She told me that it does NOT treat ticks and I argued that it did. But when she showed me the box it didn't say anything about treating ticks.

Mally was on Revolution when he was a younger dog. He did get Lyme Disease. We live close to a forest preserve and believe he got the tick from a deer. (Revolution does not take care of deer ticks we found out afterwards) He now is on FrontLine Plus, it kills fleas, flea egs, ticks and chewing lice. (Kills ticks including those that may transmit Lyme disease.)

The two types listed on the box are both dog ticks. One a Brown, and the American.

Revolution does not list ticks on it's kill list. So I don't think it will do you any good in that regard.

Revolution is selamectin, which is not currently on the list for MDR-1 dogs.

Selamectin is on the list.

Yeah, I know, it says that all over the web. I think the rules or drug approval, at least regarding Selamectin, must be different in Canada, because the box specifically doesn't list ticks. Also, you can't view the Canadian Revolution web site unless you have a DIN #, and there's a disclosure statement at the bottom that says

"The product information provided in this site is intended only for residents of Canada. The products featured herein may have different product labeling in different countries..."

In any case, good friends of ours use revolution and their dogs are bitten by ticks all the time. I'd rather use something that either prevented them from biting or that kills them more quickly. That's just my personal choice, I'm sure it may work better for others in different areas.

I just booked the bloodwork for Emma and Liam regarding the heartworm and did question about ticks and Revolution. The tech told me that Revolution does not prevent ticks from attaching and feeding but will kill them after 72 hours.

no kidding! After 72 hrs that tick will fall off by itself and deed is done... good suggestion

Thanks to all for the information. I am sure we have deer ticks around here since we have deer in the neighborhood....so I guess I will ask my vet for his advice the next time I am there. In the meantime I will stick with Advantage and the tick collar. Actually, I am not sure what kind of ticks the collar kills and I threw away the container it was in, of course.

Wow...I am so glad I that I looked up Revolution on this message board. I have used Revolution for the past year thinking it would help prevent Ticks along with it being a flea/heartworm preventative. (Can't believe my vet didn't warn me)

I just ordered a tick collar to protect my little guy this year. (Preventic is the one the makers of Revolution recommended).
