Back on Track

Great to hear that :) Can't wait to get my hands on one. Seems like everyone is happy with their BOT products.

I did want to say that if you're going to get one you may want to ask some friends about sizes. I wish I had had my dogs try them on before we ordered them. Got one size for Lexi and it was too big, it kept sliding off. It fits Bentley okay, and we ordered another one for her, but I was surprised since we followed the measuring guidelines.

I have the mesh one for both my dogs. I opted for mesh because it was lighter and, with the double coat, I didn't want them to be too hot and was concerned the standard dog blanket/rug (we refer to them as blankets in the US) would be too much.

Mine wear them at agility trials all year round. We trial at a climate controlled facility so it's cool inside when hot outside and warm inside when cold outside. Using the blanket in the summer with the A/C helps keep the muscles warm when they are crated in the cool building. The reverse being true in the winter, keeping the muscles a little warmer when going out in the cold.

As Ashley suggested, if you can try one on before you buy it, I'd take advantage of that. CJ's actually fits her pretty well. We ordered the same size for Edan, based on the measuring instructions, and his is nearly too big; it's adjusted to the smallest possible size; the next size down wouldn't be long enough to cover the length of his body. While they are supposed to be loose, you don't want them overly large.

The only other issue I have is with the rear leg elastic straps. Because of the way the blanket fits my dogs, the straps nearly drag the ground and sometimes catch on their knees if I use them. I'm actually going to cut the straps off of Edan's because they frequently get in the way.

Other than that, I really love the product.

Silaria, do your back on track jackets have the adjustable leg straps? It is interesting... some that they send out have leg straps that can be adjusted, and some can't. My dogs have the adjustable leg straps and it makes a big difference. Where as a friend recieved one that does not and she constantly has problems with them not staying put because they aren't adjustable.

What?? I'm so jealous! Mine are not adjustable. I wish they were so I could make the jackets a bit more snug.

Yes, mine are adjustable as are most of the ones people I know have. It seems like the ones with the red writing on them are not adjustable, and the ones with the white/cream colored writing are adjustable. I have my dogs leg straps tightened up quite a bit so that they don't come loose all of the time.
So when you go to order, you may want to speak to a person. Make sure to ask for one with adjustable leg straps

Whoa, thank you all. That's very helpful. I unfortunately don't think I'll be able to try it on, because it's only available in online store. Don't know about any stores in the city that would have them. Sadly friends who are in the area and have them own big dogs so no help there either. But from your posts it seems that it's better to get smaller size than bigger one?!

Ive only seen BOT blankets with white/cream writing over here, but might as well ask if they have adjustable leg straps. Thanks for pointing that out. Though even if they didn't have it I'm pretty sure they're from the same distributor for our country so there's probably no chance to get different blanket.

No, mine aren't adjustable. It seems like the mesh blankets, the only ones I've seen with the red writing, aren't adjustable and the standard ones, the ones not mesh and with white-ish writing, are. Bummer. adjustable straps would be helpful.

Hmm... maybe I'll take a needle and thread to the elastic and tack it the length I want rather than cutting them off.

I tried that--but I'm not much of a sewer (read: not at all), and the thread would just go right through the elastic even with multiple knots :(

Thinking about size again - anyone has both Hurtta and BOT coat? I'm asking because my dog has Hurtta 40 (40 cm) but I've read BOT isn't necessarily same. Lot of ppl complained that BOT was too big even though they measured their dogs from shoulders (behind the neck) to tail. Hurtta is kind of tight for my dog and little short at the tail (would be ok for him to have it like 2-3cm longer) but it seems getting BOT 43 could be mistake since people generally say it's bigger than they expected.
