Baker says hello!

When the puppies were first born, two of the 3 boys had nice, but non-symmetrical, blaze faces. I knew I had first pick & was leaning that way. But, seeing later pics...I could just "sense" something about the "plain-faced" boy. I met them at 6 weeks old, with an open mind, but thinking I would end up with blaze. Baker had other plans!

Thank God Shelties are so very smart! :smile2:

I think with the 'plainer' coloured shelties their beautiful features and bone structure is accentuated more.

He doesn't look small to me, probably because I have the English type which I think are generally smaller, or finer boned at least. Very sweet photo of Trace.

The first thing that my co-workers say when they meet Baker (after seeing pics) is: he is so much smaller in person!

We'll get a new weight tomorrow afternoon.

Cara - did you notice that he is wearing the collar that you sent? still at the half-way size! Hubby hates it because his fingers are larger & he has trouble catching both rings. I love it!

I DID notice. Cubby has one bigger and so does Shay. Right now, though, Cubby has on his Liberace collar which has a little elastic piece for safety.

Thanks - he's rather plain looking compared to some (ok, most) of the rest of Class of 2014, but we love him - and he is almost too smart for his own good.

I have seen some comments that he really isn't all that small, and in the world of Shelties he might not seem as tiny as I feel he is. But my only other experience with a Sheltie was my beloved Trace (we knew he was going to be oversized when we picked him out at 5 weeks). The picture attached was taken the day we brought Trace home - at 9 weeks old!

Comparing that to the pic with the same Toby, with Baker being twice as old...that's why I feel like I have such a tiny, fragile little thing.
Baker is so adorable! He looks ready to adventure!! I know what you mean about the size thing. At 3 weeks when we saw Ruu we knew he was going to be one of the bigger puppies in the litter. The other, his sibling who her mom claimed before me. Ruutu was the 2nd born after this brother (not that it matters). He's actually .75 bigger than his brother though according to AKC measuring. When my breeder measured them though, they both were 17.75. Just barely made the 16" cut off for Agility.

But, back to the size thing. My parents got a sheltie puppy right before Ruutu was born. He was very tiny and I felt like I could snap his bones with one wrong turn (he actually did end up breaking his leg when my dad fell with him in his arms). Ruutu has very dense bones and even though he whacks himself off of things, he's never broken. Ruutu made me realize I like the big furkids versus small. Honey is 15" so she's perfect size in my eyes, but Ruutu even makes her look small. My parents sheltie grew a little over 13" but not much if I remember correctly.

Baker's big weigh-in at his rabies shot appointment this afternoon: a whopping 8.8lbs at 18 weeks and 2 days old! The vet commented when he saw us in the waiting room that he gets a tiny bit bigger every visit.

Slow and steady wins the race? lol
