Baker says hello!

I certainly didn't go looking for a small Sheltie - would actually have preferred an oversize boy as more of a match for Toby. But...the decision wasn't mine & I am so happy that he picked me!

Another awesome poop this afternoon - amazing what makes me happy!

Thanks Cara! I laugh when I hear that Cubby has fallen off the couch. I will have to take a picture of Baker posing on ours. Him falling off would be the equivalent of falling off the Grand Canyon! :ick

Baker update: he is such a love! Whatever ailed him on Saturday is long gone - he's so spunky, healthy appetite & poop is almost photo worthy (just kidding). Also getting cuter every day - didn't think that was even possible!

House breaking is going pretty good - as long as Brian & I keep to a good schedule. We usually carry him out since he's so tiny, so the little guy shocked me when he showed some signs of wanting to go & went over to stare at the door! Went out for a quick poop! I think he's catching on.
He learned how to sit in one session, "chill" (down) took a bit longer but tonight he nailed it every time without me having to point to the floor. I need to make up some liver treats so we can work on his recall. He does pretty good, but there are so many other interesting things in the yard. I need to make sure that I am more worthy of his attention than the grass, leaves, sticks...

Toby is being as awesome as expected. Baker is getting more playful with him, climbing over, chewing
his tail...and big bro Tobes just takes it all in stride. He's pretty special.

Baker is also quite curious about that "funny looking dog" that we call a cat. He loves to chase her.

Camping this weekend - that will be interesting since their crates are soft-sided & not next to each other - we may need to rethink their sleeping arrangements for a while.

Still miss my Trace every single day, but so happy to have little Baker to bring some smiles back into the house.

How are you going to potty him without risking exposure to things? Just curious.

Cubby has limited concept of potty. He knows to potty outside but I am not sure knows NOT to potty inside. Sigh. There was a spot on my couch -- didn't smell like urine, may have been drool from chewing. In any case the big A is delivering me a matress protection pad for my couch! Sigh. I do not like puppyhood.

More pix updates are in order!

This is my thought with jade. She knows that potting outside is good, but doesn't quite understand that going inside is bad. They will learn though..

She did get my area rug last week... It'll have to go to dry cleaners :(

I just bought Nature's Miracle in gallon size!

Sigh. I like the dogs they become but I don't like the puppies they are. It might help if I didn't have to work and/or did not have such a bad knee and the potty place down steps!

Not sure what you mean by this.

Do you mean at the camper? He will only be allowed to go "outside" on our site. There are no other dogs nearby, our site sits a ways off the road so even dogs being walked by don't come near our camper and we don't have any issues with other critters (raccoons etc). At home Baker loves to run around like crazy in our yard - at the camper it will be potty/poop on leash & then back on the deck. When we take Toby for his walks I will be carrying Baker.

We have been working on leash training and he is fairly tolerant - even does his business outside on the leash, so I'm lucky there.

Do you guys think I am putting Baker at risk by taking him to the camper after having only one shot? Like I said, his exposure to the ground will be extremely limited.

We have a walk-through baby gate to keep the boys in the den. Baker has decided to take that literally & walks right through it when it's closed! I can't wait for him to get bigger...

I taught Cubby to pee on a pee pad in my Mom's garage in a matter of 5 minutes which he then did three times that day once the pattern started. Perhaps the super large pee pads would help. In that regard. Another thing you could do is have a small tent that he could be in (or an x-pen which is heavier to carry). I like the tent for my dogs when camping because it keeps mosquitoes out too.

The experience would be good for him, piddle pads would too. I was told by my vet to NOT go camping to the beach or the forest until he was done with shots. However, it's certainly not about the air, it's about the ground (dogs, foxes, coyotes, wolves?, etc. that can carry distemper and parvo).

Remember, am the swoop-off-my-broomstick parvo panicker. If you lived in my area you would understand. It's extreme in Central CA.
